Hey r/Norway ! As someone who enjoys learning more about different cultures, I wish to create a Spotify playlist that includes songs from as many countries in the world as possible, and I need your help. List some timeless classics that define Norway culturally, and I will add the 5 most upvoted ones to the playlist.

Check out the playlist [here](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0RvLkZGkF1wPtyqExf4BKz?si=d4VGKoRWQtCe5RzsuNJM-w&utm_source=copy-link) and the list of each country’s contributions so far [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/16H0t3yUk5XZQkWe9nNTnDvhTrJa5U1ane_dvIgdDzRM/edit?usp=drivesdk)

  1. Kråkevisa/Bonden og kråka (Medieval ballad, recorded versions by Lillebjørn Nilsen and others)

  2. I was a camper, counselor, and eventually director of a Norwegian heritage camp in Northern Wisconsin for many years. One of my favorites is Alt for Norge by Drillos.

  3. La Det Swinge by Bobbysocks

Edited to add: Helvegen by Wardruna. Just to get some “viking” inspired music on the list too.

  4. Tir n’a Noir & Månemannen by Vamp.

Tir n’a Noir is beloved by many, & often played at funerals.

Månemannen is a brilliant encapsulation of our myths & musical history/culture. Old folklore presented in a modern way, with elements of traditional music.

I would also say pretty much anything on Ompa til du dør by Kaizers Orchestra, including the title song.

  5. Kjærlighetsvisa by Halvdan Sivertsen.

Sung in Halvdans Northern Norwegian dialect, it is political and matter-of-factly romantic in a very understated typically Norwegian way, nods to our culture, nature and weather, and is simply beautiful.

Sámiid Ædnan – Sami Country – by Mattis Hætta and Sverre Kjelsberg, Norway’s Eurovision Song Contest entry for 1980.

This protest song captures the moment when Norway’s indigenous peoples the Sami rose to claim their place at the national political, social and cultural table. It incorporates the traditional Sami music form joik, and is the first time a song performed by a Sami in Sami dress about a Sami-led issue became a national hit. The song is part of a protest movement against a planned power plan on historically Sami land on which Sami herded their reindeer.

  6. Har du fyr – Ola Bremnes or Hekla Stålstrenga

Mitt Lille Land – Ole Paus or Maria Solheim

    Reodors Ballade from Flåklypa*

Kanskje kommer kongen – Knutsen & Ludvigsen

    Take On Me – Aha

    Stjernesludd – DumDum Boys

    Krasafaren Steinbu – Hellbillies

    Idyll – Postgirobygget

Kanskje du behøver noen – CC Cowboys

Sommerfuggel i Vinterland – Halvdan Sivertsen

    Jaktprat – Øystein Sunde

Ja, Vi Elsker Dette Landet – Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (obviously)

    Smak av honning – DeLillos

Hodet over vannet – Morten Abel

Her Kommer Vintern – Jokke & Valentinerne

    Vinsjan på kaia – DDE

    Hjerteknuser – Kaizers or Rolfa

Nordnorsk julesalme – Oslo Gospel Choir

    Røyksopp – Eple

    Floden – Bjørn Eidsvåg

There are more but you know… its not only only.

*this one gives me patriotic goosebumps.

    Edit,
I made a playlist of stuff I found. It should be collaborative so people can add to it if they feel 🙂
