It should say yet. We all know the younger generations will end up being forced to retire later. All thanks to the greed of the boomers who have benefited so much from being born at the right time.
Going on past form, tories will try to count this as a pension age cut.
Just like they counted nurses that didn’t leave the NHS as ‘new’ nurses…..
So they are waiting so labour have to do it or until after their next election win to bring it in on day 2.
They looked at France, looked at how pissed off the public are with them and went ‘uhhhhhnope’
Keep in mind there are local elections coming up next month, so expect a flurry of this sort of voter-tempting stuff put out by the Tories in run up to it.
They aren’t doing you a favour…people are just dying earlier
When they say 68, do they actually mean 68 and 11 months? Someone told me that but can’t find out
imo state pension age should be ~~tied~~ linked to average life expectancy and it would be better to bite the bullet and raise it earlier rather than later. If people want to retire earlier they are welcome to contribute more to their private pension. I know many are unable to save due to the cost of living crisis but that’s a separate issue.
Gen Z and Millennials will have to retire at this age or much much later. The young shouldn’t have go pay through the nose to support the pensions of boomers who have already benefitted immensely from being born at the right time. As sad as it is to say, the earlier retirement age is raised the better.
If young people can’t be bothered to vote, they can’t complain if the government can’t be bothered to look after their interests.
Instead of whinging about boomer this and boomer that – GET OUT AND VOTE.
Should we just get rid of pensions? Might as fucking well.
France is 62.
Cowards
Hard but necessary policy going through is important
I checked the ONS calculator. I am forecast to live 2 years less than my 73 yr old father. (86 yrs for him vs 84 yrs for me). From my perspective, they should bloody well be reducing the state pension age.

Means testing pensions, which will eventually happen, is a far easier option.
Translation: Tories are absolutely scared shitless of being hammered in the next election and don’t want to piss off their core vote
