What kind of internet speeds do you get?

  1. I have been collecting data for the last six days. I am using 3 “unlimited” broadband in Dublin. I pay € 29.99 month for this service.

This data was collected every 10 minutes using the python `speedtest-cli` toolkit on a Raspberry pi zero W. The data was processed using R with the `tidyverse` packages.

The median daily upload speed is 1.04 Mbps while the median daily download speed is 1.25 Mbps.

I would love to hear from other users who have performed such tests, and compare notes.

  2. I get berween 70-80 down and 5 to 10 up on FTTC. They’ve installed a fibre distribution box on a telephone pole by my house but they haven’t activated it yet, as soon as they do I’ll be upgrading to gigabit speeds.

  3. Usually between 150 and 250 Mbps with starlink. I’m up a mountain with not even phone signal, it has been life-changing.

  4. I’m on fibre so getting about 400 where I’m sat. To get close to 1GB I would have to plug in to the router, but I can live without.

  5. I just checked and didn’t realise my speed test docker has been down for two months which is annoying. This is the latest I have from January:

Results are bit skewed by a network issue I had not related to my internet though so it’s lower than usual. Pay for 500 and pretty much always get within 10%.

  6. Cork City. Paying for 500mb/s with Eir. Getting 380mb/s on a good day which I’m told is actually very good. We both work from home so Zoom all day, Netflix on with the kids and it doesn’t skip a beat. Wouldn’t see the point of paying for 1GB/s to be honest.

  7. Just testing now, on my phones wifi – 412 down, 49 up. Wired probably more but I don’t use wired often. Downloads are speedy!
