  1. “there might be dangers to ai, but we see profit in market manipulation and/via ai driven hft”

“we only measure growth by finance industry profits, which is why we stack the whole system, via centuaries of economic and taxation policy, to feed london and its banks”

  2. Before I click on the link, is this like the QR code they tweeted the other day? That was some funny shit

  3. >follows new expert taskforce to build the UK’s capabilities in foundation models, including large language models like ChatGPT, and £2 million for sandbox trial to help businesses test AI rules before getting to market

aka get tax payer to fund GPU for Tory donor enterprises.

That being said to build a cluster capable of serious machine learning, that £2m is laughable.

For a single capable GPU you are looking at £30k and that’s just the card – what about the rest of the equipment, engineers capable of putting it together etc?

Or the money will be spent on overpriced cloud services pumping even more money into hands of filthy rich?

  4. Ah, some more buzzwords that can be trotted out when convenient, and the money can be quietly handed to a Tory chum without any progress, innovation, or investment ever having to be made.

  5. First the UK is supposed to become a crypto centre of the world and now AI? Seeing how well they handled crypto, I have no hope for this venture.
They are literally jumping onboard the hype train and milking it for some easy money.

I’m actually shocked that some nation hasn’t simply offered OpenAI a ton of money in order to become the centre for AI development around the world. You just got Microsoft funding them 10b which is a pittance compared to what the funding should be considering how its probably the most important technological advancement EVER.

  6. £2 million

They have absolutely no fucking idea.

They’ll throw a few billion at a trace app for covid when they could get off the shelf open source

But no let’s develop a competitive ai for £2m

    Jesus fucking wept

  7. Tldr: £2m.

    It’s fuck all.

A single senior AI software engineer is going to cost you six figures per year alone.

This money will be gone in a few months.

It’s like in the budget they announced £1m for mental health services. What.. across the whole fucking country? That’s like one minimum wage worker per 15 constituencies. That’s going to have barely any impact whatsoever.

But we can afford over £1bn to increase the annual pension contributions allowance to twice the median UK salary so very high earners can avoid more tax.

It’s great to hear that the UK government has established a sandbox for companies to test their AI products against regulations. AI technology is still evolving rapidly, and there are many questions and challenges around how it should be regulated and deployed in society. By providing a space for companies to test their AI products, the government can ensure that these technologies are safe, ethical, and compliant with relevant regulations before they are released to the market.
The sandbox approach is a useful tool for companies and regulators to work together to develop effective and appropriate regulations. It allows companies to test their products in a controlled environment, while also providing regulators with valuable information about how AI technologies are being developed and used in practice. This information can be used to inform the development of new regulations or updates to existing regulations, helping to ensure that the regulatory environment keeps pace with technological advancements.
Overall, the sandbox approach is a positive step towards ensuring that AI technologies are developed and used in a responsible and ethical way, and that regulations keep pace with the rapid changes in this field.
