Folks, I know times are hard and things are tight for many of us, but I read this story this morning about this poor 12 year old Irish girl who lost ALL FOUR limbs due to a Strep A infection. Just look at her, she bravely kept her smile even after they were removed. Her whole life torn away from her so quickly and without warning. I know many of you feel there is little justice in this world but I would encourage you to support the family becuase showing kindness to a stranger is one of the few things we can do in this unfair world 🌎 ❤ can’t post any links here.

That is terrifying, the poor child.
That’s horrific. Poor girl. Puts the insignificant bullshit I whinge about into perspective
That’s absolutely heartbreaking.
Heartbreaking and incredibly brave by the young girl. We have a tendency to moan about this and that but sometimes news stories like these put things into perspective
The poor thing ☹️☹️

Jesus this helps put things in perspective.
“The 12-year-old from Blanchardstown, Co Dublin, developed a temperature on Sunday, December 11, her first and only symptom.” 24 hours later in Temple Street on a ventilator.
That’s the really horrific thing. People give out all the time about overreaction of parents and people wasting time, but it’s not as though serious illnesses come with a warning label. So often you’re negotiating the vaguest idea of what’s wrong.
I had a hip joint infection as a child that went septic. I complained at school but the initial response was “go outside for break and run around and you’ll feel better”. A few hours later I was brought into emergency surgery literally screaming in pain. The escalation is unbelievably quick and terrifying for everyone involved.
I’m worried people will read this headline and assume the parents were somehow horribly negligent to have this happen, when in reality they did everything reasonable that could possibly have been done and ultimately saved her life. It’s any parent’s worst nightmare.
Absolutely terrifying, poor kid.
Jaysus…
Jesus! My two are just getting over STREP A (and me too I think) – Urgh! I shudder to think! :
❤️
May she be blessed by love, kindness and courage,
Awful. Hopefully she can make a good recovery and lead a full life.
By the looks of it, her arms still come past the elbow, and she possibly has some knee function remaining as well, which is the best that you could hope for in an otherwise horrendous situation.
The poor thing. Horrible news.
Poor girl.
Baffled as to how this happened. Strep infection to fever to pneumonia in the space of 24 hrs… then to develop sepsis in the hospital. I’m sure the medical staff did everything properly. Could it have been a pan-resistant strain of strep A? And if so how does one pick up pan-resistant strep A while playing in the park?
It’s a heartbreaking story, simply awful for the girl. So brave to be able to smile after all she’s been through.
Whenever I read stuff like this, I’m just so filled with gratitude for researchers who can help those who come after us. 😞 That poor wee one.

Jesus Christ. Strep A of all things. Hope Sophie continues to lead a full life
❤️😔
Fucking hell that is tragic. I threw €10 towards the gofundme
Shows how fragile life is, things can take a drastic turn in a matter of minutes.
Fecking hell, thats sad as hell.
Hopefully the gofundme money she got can help her difficulties, tech in prostetics has come an insane way the past decade, i dont know the prices for it, but i’ve seen how good some arm prostetics can be, she’l have to learn how to hold a pen again but its not the end of the world how it used to be, still this is sad beyond belief.
That’s awful. The poor little thing.
What a cruel and horrible world we live in.
There truly is no god. Poor girl. I feel absolutely awful for her and her family. There are people out there who have made very inspiring stories out of these circumstances. Sophie is going to need all of those stories.
😪😪😪
Streptococcus A is the most likely cause of necrotizing factistis. The bacteria got into her body and released toxins somehow and progressed to the point that she had to get four limbs removed. I must add this is an extreme rare case and not all strep A infections play out this way quite the contrary. At least they managed to save her. Well done to the doctors at Crumlin and temple street
I find this absolutely heartbreaking. May she always find the strength to smile and have a far better future ✨️
It’s still very sad, but I reckon we’ll have decent cybernetics in about the next ten years. So she could be back up and about in her twenties?
I read this earlier and still just cannot get over how a kid this young can go from a temperature. God love her and I hope she can find her own way through this.
