  1. I always had high respect for him solely because of his work for dogs, he really did have a burning passion for them and tried his hardest to help them.

While it’s sad he’s gone, at least he’s going to be reunited with his beloved Buster again.

  2. Damm I never comment on celebrity deaths . But I remember the Paul O’Grady show when I was younger . This is coming from someone who doesn’t watch television anymore as an adult .

  3. Man that sucks. What a great guy. I used to love watching his show with my grandma when we’d have our tea. He managed to be funnier at 5pm than a lot of others did past the watershed.

  4. This is awful, my mother loves him. He did exceptional work for dogs that needed a home in the UK. Bless his heart

  5. I had to do a double take when I read this, I thought I was getting the name mixed up with someone else. I loved his talk show and For the Love of Dogs. Rest In Peace.

  6. Given his heart troubles, I was shocked to see him touring in Annie (essentially back at Lily Savage). Seems like he just finished in Edinburgh at the weekend. I wonder if it was too much.

  7. God. Lilly Savage would be on telly when i was wee and i thought she was pretty. Then my dad told me it was a guy dressed up and i couldn’t believe it.

A naturally lovely and hilarious guy wherever he went or appeared. His show on itv (then channel 4 then itv again) was such fun.

    RIP

  8. I honestly could not have expected this news, 67 is far too young these days. I remember watching the Paul O’Grady show after school everyday and used to love seeing his dogs and even had my Nan write to the show to see if he would announce my birthday like he often did but we got a response to say the show wouldn’t be on air at the time. With his persistent heart troubles, I can only imagine that they likely played a role in his death, but it is very sad nonetheless.

  9. Damn. I have really good memories of being a kid watching his show with my gran. So wholesome

  10. Watched him since he was Lily Savage on the Big Breakfast, this is such sad news. A kind man, who did so much for animals. If you have never read his books I strongly recommend them, they are some of the funniest biographies I have had the pleasure of reading.

RIP Paul, reunited with Buster now!

  11. Holy shit ! I can’t believe it ! 😢
I met him a few years ago when I got my dog from Battersea.
A fantastic guy who did so much for a lot of charities.
He will be sadly missed for sure.
God bless you Paul O’Grady rest in peace 🙏 ❤️

  12. Lovely man. Close friend of my brother. Not like his acerbic image at all. R.I.P Paul. Hope you and Steve are having a laugh up there !! Shocked.

  13. > O’Grady’s long-time radio producer Malcolm Prince said he had visited the star at his home on Tuesday afternoon, describing him as “laughing, smiling, and full of life”.

  14. The Paul O’Grady show was tremendous when I was a kid, him and Olga were brilliant. As a massive dog lover I really enjoyed watching most stuff he did. So sad.

    RIP Paul.

  15. I met him in Waitrose once. He was pure class.

Loved Lily Savage, loved his chat show, loved For The Love of Dogs.

RIP to an out and out ICON.

  16. He was one of the very few TV presenters who could interview non-celebs without being patronising.

His first two autobiographies, about his life before he was famous, are brilliant, mostly because he was interested in other people and noticed details. He had seen a lot of aspects of life and understood people, as well as animals.

  17. What horrible news. I used to watch Lily Savage as a child before I even knew what a drag queen was. Blew my mind when Paul O’Grady show came out and my mum said it was her. Such a lovely and funny person.

  18. Always respected the guy for his animal work but never really watched his shows… Except for religiously watching the last 5 or so minutes of his Chat Show because it was on before the Simpsons.

    RIP

  19. Meet him once and he was a really genuine, sincere and nice. Spent most of the time taking about his farm and pigs.

  20. He’s been a staple in our TV viewing since the days of Lily Savage. Like so many of these beloved celebrities, I feel we never get proper farewells all too often. Such a shame.

  21. Very sad, he was one of the few honest celebs who just seemed to be very genuine at all times, and I always found him to be very funny, even on daytime TV where he had to play it safe. Just a genuinely funny person.

He had a big health scare when he caught Covid. Apparently it floored him, and he’s had heart trouble.

One doesn’t like to speculate but I wonder if it’s all related? Like maybe it caused long term damage that’s now sadly caught up?

  22. I saw Lily Savage live in the ’90s. You did not make eye contact, or sniff/move/react in any way other than laugh in case you caught her eye and got a roasting for it. Paul O’ Grady was a genuinely decent human being. Might have to open a bottle of Blue Nun and take to my bed in mourning

  23. This is so sad. Used to watch the Paul O’Grady show with my (late) nan and adored Lily Savage’s Blankety Blank when I was a kid. It’s often on challenge TV and it still makes me laugh now.

His comedy had a sharp edge to it but yet his genuine decency as a person always shined through as well.

  24. I don’t think there’ll be another primetime talkshow with a politically vocal LGBTQ person hosting that the entire family loves watching, together. I don’t think our media consumption will allow it but my god, he did a great service to so many people. My first true LGBTQ exposure as a mid 20s person and what a great person to see.

  25. We are lucky as a country to have drag brought into the mainstream – both the traditions of pantomime and Paul O’Grady on prime time back in the day.

  26. When my daughter had heart surgery at GT Ormund St Paul was there filming something, said hello to him on the ward and he was really kind asking if we were doing ok and enquiring about our daughter.

Very sad to hear of his passing

  27. Desperately sad… being a child of the 70s I grew up with Blankety Blank on TV at tea time at the weekend – Wogan and Dawson – and it required a genius to fill their boots when the show was brought back…

Paul O Grady as Lily Savage was that genius. Then he went on to be a great interviewer – with acid wit and a good heart.

    RIP Paul

  28. Sad to hear. We used to watch him from our balcony when he was filming at Battersea Cats and Dogs home, but hadn’t seen him in a while.

  29. The celeb outpouring of grief is totally justified in POGs case, such a nice guy by all accounts and an ambassador for being kind to all. So sad.
