> an Army truck traveling from Hohenfels toward Grafenwoehr pulled over to the side of the highway after it was separated from the rest of the convoy
Well, that’s a €55 fine straight off, rising to €100 if it results in an accident. Stopping is not allowed on the autobahn, and the hard shoulder may only be used under the following circumstances:
* your vehicle breaks down, or some other emergency arises and this is the only way you can clear the autobahn;
* a sign allows you to use the shoulder if traffic is particularly heavy;
* you are directed onto the should by police.
I assume the truck must also have been doing something illegal, but stopping on the autobahn when there isn’t an actual emergency or traffic jam is absolutely forbidden.
PSA: You do not stop on the autobahn or use the hard shoulder unless you genuinely have no other option. If it is possible, you must leave the autobahn at the next available exit, or pull in to a designated rest area.
Funny how much effort and repetitioms they make for the distinction between people in general an people from that Us military.
