Some other interesting graphs there too for anyone interested!
This sucks
Realy makes me wish eu was a better place where yung people could freely have chidren without worry.
Im not saying overpopulation, but stady slow growth or that it just stays the same.
Also just moving more people eu wont solve this, just make it worse
As if there wasn’t any migration. 1 billion isn’t out of the question.
World population is growing exponentially. Europeans may be having fewer children, but everyone else is having more. No problem, except that altogether, we’re having more children than our world can support, and our sharing of resources is crazily unequal.
Unluckily, no one of us will be alive by that time.
We need to fuck more if we want to stay relevant globally.
honest question
if the population in western nations decline, then global inequality will likely raise, yes? fewer people with mist of the wealth.
if that is true, then us europeans do have some moral obligation to adresss that.
I have seen some suggest that the more optimistic scenarios are getting more likely because those with genes predisposing them to have more children are passing on their genes a lot more than those with genes disposing them to not have children. So those countries that started having population declines first will start to see gains again first:
I’d be curious to know what were the projections for 2023 or thereabouts in 1950.
The username checks out
so you are telling me that housing will get cheaper?
thats some good news, though i ll likely be dead when the population go back to the 60’s number.
Europeans about to become heroic fantasy elves. Incredibly advanced and wealthy society but few in number and threatened by extinction.
“just invite more imigrants and we will be fine🤓”

Is like – it will grow or it will decline
Shit prediction
It’s specific regions, parts of Central and Eastern Europe are expected to halve in population, while other places are expected to grow or stay flat. This could pose serious issues for some individual nations.
fine by me, there’s too many ppl in the big cities anyways. would help the environment too
sweet… cheaper appartments in just 70 years !! let’s go.
It is clear that we need a paradigme shift. Many societies, particularly in parts of Southern Europe, have decided that the transfers to the dependent population should all but entirely go to pensioners. Families get naught, and the housing ladder is difficult to climb. We need to make housing affordable, make sure that efforts to tackle the climate crisis do not hit families’ living standards and rebalance welfare away from the elderly and towards children (yeah, difficult with current voter distribution, but still).
Even with all of these measures, population will still likely decline. I mean, if Europeans have, say, 30% more kids, we are still looking at overall population decrease. However, the speed of said decline and the increase in the average age will be manageable, i.e. it can be compensated by advances in tech and immigration without crashing the economy.
