Do you reckon they weren’t from the area and moved there at the time of the birth? Surely it would have come out otherwise.
So they’re going to claim the forgot about their baby?
Mental case
Very sad case in so many respects… esp what happened to Joanne Hayes
There should be justice, but you can’t forget Ireland was so different 40 yrs ago with churches influence, sex was taboo it was like going back 100 years…
The thing here is that you can prove paternity but you’ll have a hard job proving murder.
Easy to say I was 16 when I gave birth and my dad took the baby away and said he’d sort it, i thought he meant adoption and didn’t know he was going to kill my poor baby.
were these parents well-rumoured in the locality or did nobody have a clue?
I hope that the Hayes family sues for the pain and suffering that this couple caused them for over 40 years. They wasted the guards time, cost the country a fortune. They have had plenty of time to put the record straight,an anonymous call to the guards at the time could have spared Joanne Hayes.Murder was murder 40 years ago and is murder today…..baby John deserves the truth.
I don’t know what they can prove at this point, but there will be criminal charges of some kind. Their baby was found with 28 stab wounds and they never came forward. It doesn’t look good and in their best case scenario they’re dealing child neglect resulting in death.
Might be a silly question, and apologies in advance, but why aren’t other sources reporting this?
For Joanne Hayes’ sake, I hope they try it. I think the case deserves an airing. This isn’t the kind of things that should fall quietly under the carpet. Even if they say it was a relative or something who did the actual killing allegedly, I think it should see a courtroom. The baby was stabbed after all.
lock them up for life
they knew exactly what happened to their baby. Any parent would be non stop searching for life to find that poor child’s murderer.
As parents where were they and what did they do when their child went missing?
We still need to find out why the Gardaí concentrated their investigation at the other end of the county and not the obvious town of Caherciveen, and why they were not interested in verifying that Joanne Hayes buried her baby on the family farm when she told them at the beginning. Who benefited, *Cui bono*?
I’m sure there were thousands of unwanted babies born on farms around Ireland and buried quietly in a field somewhere and never heard of again. If they had buried this baby in some quiet spot we would most likely never have heard of it either. The person who threw it in the sea obviously was very inexperienced.
