I’m so tired of these people with these cards. Every damn day.

  1. Why doesn’t he pray directly to his God to be rewarded himself?

Cuts out the middle man, which is more efficient in every business.

  2. Been a long time that I haven’t seen them. But it’s been the exact same card for years–never have and never will give a single penny to them

  3. take care, these are often used to scan the train for laptops etc.. to steal, and on their second pass, they steal your stuff, or they signal to others.

It’s even more evil than just blind begging.

And the worst thing of all is, I actually often see them getting money. crazy town

  4. I encounter them once in a while. As a traindriver I have a NMBS jacket. Once they notice it they run out of the train. They are scammers.

  5. This isn’t about begging for money, it’s to see who isn’t paying attention or is asleep and they note where their backpack, luggage or wallet is then inform a partner.

  6. With how many are they even? 1/3 chance I see them when I take Antwerp – Brussels train or vice versa. Must be a big group doing this all day.

  7. Like others said: just leave it where they put it or don’t take it and mind your surroundings. They never look you in the eye, but you can bet they saw what kind of phone you were holding or if your backpack was open.

  8. IT’S SCAM! This could be a distraction to keep your attention while they’re stealing luggage from above your head. Got robbed this way in BXL

  9. *has no money

*prints begging papers on expensive colorized paper and thiccc fonts wich costs more ink.

    Common! Be more efficient dammit!

  10. I see them every single day for years but the NMBS doesn’t do anything about them. These are scammers who are part of “gangs”, that have been doing things like this for years. I used to warn people on the train, but it happens all the time so I stopped doing it. It gets me mad when I see so many people falling for this scam

  11. I absolutely hate this too. They can be really rude as well. I never give them any money.
But I guess they earn quite a bit if they keep doing this 🤷‍♀️

  12. i look at my phone so i look like i don’t notice them or like im not interested. either way they dont give them to me that way

  13. It’s been more than 5 years since I last took a train, and even still I remember seeing one of these people handing these out on my rides more then once a week, so I’m genuinely surprised to discover that it’s still a thing.

Like, nothing about the paper (text or color) even changed in all that time? Should we consider this cultural heritage at this point?

  14. I once put one of those cards in the empty bin next to me, not knowing they’d return. Suddenly the guy is standing next to me, glaring at me as I retrieve the crumpled note from the trash, oops?

  15. Friendly reminder not to give money to beggars.

There’s a lot of things you can do if you genuinely want to help and if you want to feel good about it, but this is not one of them.

Giving money to beggars is how you get more beggars as it incentivizes begging.

If nobody would give them money, they would have to find a different way, which is a good thing since that will be a long term sustainable and productive part of society.

  16. I’m mostly tired of people actually guilt tripping into this and give money. That keeps this think coming back

  17. My pet peeve is if someone asks me for money but specifically if I have my headphones on over my ears. You get me?

It’s funny because it comes from a sort of role reversal of when I was a “brand ambassador” meaning I would hand out fliers to people on the sidewalk. And if I ever motioned or waved to someone who had to take off their headphones they would be pissed.

  18. So, these are ‘Roma zigeuners’. They operate in groups. They will beg, harass and very occasionally steal. They make A LOT of money, sometimes to €200-250 a day. They can be quite aggressive, i’ve seen them force scouts to hand over money. I hate them.

    Source; i am a treinbegeleider

  19. Het is toch opvallend dat er zogezegd geen geld is voor huur, elektriciteit en verwarming maar dan wel voor gekleurd papier en inkt uit een printer.

  20. Got one last weekend on bxl-central to bxl-noord, guy looked angry and muscular like a gymrat. At least pretend you’re begging bro please, put some effort into it.
Who the fuck wants to give money to the ‘poor bigass well dressed guy who looks at everyone angrily’?

  21. I have to pay bills and heating … anyone wanna chuck me a few euro. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m not needy but I mean if anyone can ask for cash 😂

  23. These are gangs. The woman are begging in the streets of the big cities. All proceeds go to basically mobs. Arresting them is essentially pointless because they´d just send another expandable footsoldier. And they know it. I´m wondering when trainheists like in the wild west become a thing again.

  24. That’s a scam and also the laziest way to beg money ever. But at least they don’t actively annoy me, most of the time they just pick back up their paper and go away

  25. Always call Securail (0800/30 230) when you see them. I usually start the call when they approach me. When they hear me say “hallo, Securail, ik zit op …” they run away.
