Richard Madeley compares climate protesters to ‘paedophiles’ on GMB | Culture

  1. Madeley has a habit of doing this. I remember something similar about 20 years ago on their Channel 4 show getting him in trouble.

  2. I don’t particularly like the way some climate protestors go about things, but to compare them to paedophiles is asinine. They’re very much right to be concerned about climate change.

  3. Misleading headline.

He was talking about reports some barristers will refuse to **prosecute** climate protestors (presumably as they agree with the cause)- the obvious flip side to that is that the same barristers should refuse to **defend** people (e.g. paedophiles) unless they agree with *their “*cause”.

  4. No one would be surprised to know he once read out the dictionary definition of ‘fascism’ on air to a climate protestor last year.

  5. When will people learn that Madeley’s “job” (as with Piers Morgan before him) is to say provocative shit so that people pay attention to whatever show he’s on, thus getting more eyeballs and more advertising revenue for the channel.

“Of bloody hell, what’s he said now” is his guiding principle.

    *And it’s working*

  6. So how long until he stands as a Reform/UKIP MP? He’s getting that swivel-eyed lunatic vibe they all have. Or maybe he’ll start his own party. Worked for Kilroy-Silk…

  7. No he didn’t, he was making a point of that if barristers are going to pick and choose where do they draw the line. Barristers regularly defend paedophilia as it’s their job to do so, but they draw the line with climate activists. Why lie?

  8. Well yeah but he’s a festering right wing repeater station with no original ideas of his own repeating the sort of asinine crap he thinks will get the remaining survivors of his morning TV audience riled up and shaking their walking sticks at the TV.

  9. That’s a big stretch of a headline. He could have just said “other criminals” or something of that sort. It reads like he’s calling them paedophiles, and he’s not…? Like at all? But this being reddit, many of you are just reading the headline.

  10. Statistically speaking, aren’t TV presenters more likely to be pedophiles than most other professions (other than priests).?

  11. This sounds like him trying to create a soundbite that the media sticks with. Instead, turn it around on him and make it so that people think everything he does is pedophilic in nature. Getting in a car? Well, that’s squatting, innit? Must be a secret pedo.

See? This shit’s easy to do.

  12. I’m astonished that ITV are still happy to have their brand associated with this utter melt.

  13. Ah yes the classic “anyone I don’t like is a nonce” approach very 2023. Trans people? Pedos. Climate protestors? Pedos. Anyone left wing? Pedos. But actual pedos in government and the Royal family? Lovely people

  14. It’s called reductio ad absurdum, it’s a rhetorical device which is almost always misunderstood by morons..
Whether or not you agree with the point or the argument makes sense, he is not comparing protestors to them..

  15. Lazy right wing nonsense. “I don’t like those people over there so they’re paedophiles or affiliated with them somehow.” They’ve done it to trans people, they’ve done it to homosexuals they’ve probably done it to PoC too. Upset them, they’ll do it to you.
