Sulkies should be fucking banned, poor horse could not be freed and ended up being put down, all because of its stupid owner. He’ll likely not face charges either. Absolute joke.

  2. Idiot owner ran the horse over the cattle grid, the poor horse got caught and broke its leg.

    The Army and several rescues tried everything to free it but there was nothing that could be done and unfortunately the poor horse was put down.

    It is highly unlikely that the owner will even face any charges, because animal cruelty is not taken seriously in this country.

    I’m absolutely filled with rage right now, this beautiful animal is dead now, because their moronic owner had to even HAVE them attached to a fucking sulky, and then was stupid enough to run over a cattle grid.

    Fucking BAN those stupid sulkies.

    Don’t come at me about “culture” because a culture that gets enjoyment from this type of “sport”, is not a culture I want to see thrive.

    The horse’s body is still there.

    Because multiple people have commented about it-

    They COULD NOT cut the horse out, it would have caused undue stress and terrified the poor animal. The horse also had broken legs, which are insanely expensive to treat and notoriously difficult to heal.

    It is usually only extremely rare cases, where the leg breaks in a very particular spot, that it is in any way possible to MAYBE set the leg. It’s usually only even attempted for expensive, successful racing stallions that may be used for stud.

    So please don’t comment about cutting the horse out, because if it were an option, it absolutely would have been done.

    For those asking am I against horse racing- yes I am. All forms of racing, dog, horse, or using animals for the likes of hunting, coursing, etc.

    No, I’m not racist, this would have been posted regardless of who owned the horse.

    We need the political will to ban sulkies; most of the population would support it, we just need someone who won’t fear backlash from the minority of people who use sulkies.

  18. I live close to the Guinness storehouse so I see these sulkies and chariots all the time. Most of the year the hourses are well taken care of but on St. Patrick’s day this year it was pure animal torture. All available hourses were attached to these and could bearly walk, gasping for air, after a full day of dragging the parading tourists. Just cruel …

  19. I’m near the Curragh in Milltown. We have this carry on Out here regularly now. They have bought loads of land and run a sulky convoy in and out of Newbridge daily. They do what they want.

  21. If I was the local farmer that herds cattle between fields across that I’d be staying away for a few weeks. Instead of taking responsibility for their actions they will want compensation or revenge.

    Remember that time in Limerick “The Boss O’Reilly” died after crashing into a tree, also killing a cyclist. While colleagues and friends of the tragically killed cyclist held a vigil at the scene, the deceased driver’s family blocked off the road with a convoy of cars, children hanging off the roof and bonnet, racing sulkies at speed through nearby residential areas. They also cut down the tree that he crashed into as if it was the inanimate objects fault instead of his dangerous driving that caused his death and the death of the innocent cyclist.

  22. The treatment of horses in this country is ridiculous. Why the heck would anyone in their right mind even run a horse over a cattle grid. It’s common knowledge to anyone who has been around a horse how they are seriously dangerous to them. I do hope charges are brought against the owner. Even if its taken up by an any animal welfare organisation. The poor horse deserved a thousand times better.

  25. People should be banned from owning horses unless they can arrange for them to be kept in private stables, and pass a course on animal safety. Any instances of animal cruelty should result in a life-time ban of owning animals, with any infractions sending them to prison for a lengthy service.

    Until this happens, animal cruelty like this in certain communities will continue to happen.

  30. I came upon the accident not long after it happened, for all the experts saying cut the bars, a vet, Blue Cross, army fire truck and army crane responded. I imagine the vet is more qualified to make a decision to euthanize the animal as he is there rather than somebody here looking at one picture. The army guys made an attempt to physically lift the horse by hand with straps straight after it happened but couldn’t get it free. Fair play to them they stayed with the animal trying to keep it calm so it wouldn’t hurt itself more throughout until the vet arrived.
