Not detaining child migrants creates pull factor – Sunak

  1. “We can’t exempt children from our wannabe Nazi program, because it might encourage people to bring their kids here”

    Fuck me.

  2. You only have to look to Australia to see the trauma and harm caused to children by policies like these. Sickens me to see the UK follow down the same path.

  3. They’re specifically going after the kids now eh? The Tories are going full Nasty Party again these days, masks fully off. They’re clearly hoping to scrape together a bit of support from a few of the former BNP voters because most normal people are clearly sick of their bullshit.

  4. Does anyone really care anymore and support the government in this? It feels like one last hopeless attempt to distract from failure after failure, and it really isn’t working.

A lot of seemingly right-wing people seem to think it’s a bit much now. It’s clearly a distraction. They’re really hammering hard on harmful language and just seem to be flirting with the migrant issue rather than actually wanting to solve it humanely and with any sort of empathy and dignity.

They’re a dying party with nothing left to do other than divide and spread hate. They’re not even trying anymore. If they wanted to remain relevant maybe they could deal with actual issues that affect ordinary Brits, but they can’t be bothered.

  5. I mean, obviously… We all remember the 30 year old man sat in a secondary school as a student right…

Policies are still bad, but it would be a pull factor

  6. >Exempting children arriving in the UK on small boats from detention would create a “pull factor” and would put minors at risk, Rishi Sunak has said.

You know what wouldn’t put minors at risk? Allowing a legal asylum claim to be made from France like all other civilised countries would. Instead we get Cruella Braverman who is completely unaware, or unwilling to admit how much she knows, about how asylum seekers can apply for asylum.

    [She doesn’t know](https://youtu.be/hQvh6qDrOMw?t=58)

  7. I don’t agree with detaining children. There are a few things to keep in mind here. Child asylum seekers are only 11% girls. Many child asylum seekers have no papers and claim to be 16 or 17 but are found to be much older. Actual children should never be detained. And we need to find out ways to bring more little girls to safety as they are the ones whose life is more at risk in most of the countries that are allowed asylum.

  8. Where does this logic end exactly?

“We’ve burnt down all our hospitals, healthcare will now be done by dodgy men with rusty kitchen knives in tents. Sorry guys but being able to survive an appendectomy creates a pull factor.”

  9. So “if we don’t cage children more gross brown people might wanna come here with thier gross brown kids” what a lovely message

  10. “Unaccompanied children illegally brought to the UK would be exempt from detention and deportation”

That’s going to end badly. Get ready for dinghies full up with kids trying to cross the chanel.

  11. For years when I read about the rise of fascism, I wondered how people sleep walked into it. Now with stuff like this, I realise most people dived in headfirst.

  12. Making our country a nice place to live also creates a pull factor.

Should we make living here as horrible as possible to deter migrants?

  13. So they are going to, instead encourage parents to ship their children across unaccompanied? …..

I also don’t quite understand why they are also not focusing on shutting down the human trafficking gangs ? Surely that would be a concern at this point?

  14. The dissonance in this stuff is really weird. They seem to think would-be illegal immigrants pay enough attention to the UK that they know about petty domestic nonsense like this whilst simultaneously being ignorant of quite how shit things would be for them even if they manage to escape capture.

  15. Child migrants? Most of these “children” have beards! I’d like to see the % break down of women, and (actual) children.

  16. One can use that argument to justify anything and we should all be very worried about that.

Today it’s not detaining children will make us look soft or an easy target, but given the history of asylum policy we can safely say this will escalate and it won’t be long until the Prime Minister is telling us that shooting at small boats or outright sinking them can be justified.
