What do you eat your Pirakka with? Mine’s, I like it with sulatejuustoa and any jam☺️

  1. Piirakka is only to be eaten with munavoi. Anything else is not acceptable (this will cause a long and furious discussion about the subject, I guess)

  2. Finnish boyfriend of mine once made me this version of tomato, cheese, and basil then grilled until the toppings are slightly charred 👌🏼👌🏼

  3. Most of the time i eat them with munavoi (hardboiled chopped eggs mixed in butter). That is the common way to eat them.

One good combination i do is butter and meetvursti. Another one is butter and black label Koskenlaskija cheese.

I never put anything sweet on them. I do like combination of sweet and savoury but it just doesn’t feel right on karjalanpiirakka.

  4. Munavoi is the traditional topping., But some people eat it line bread. I really like to eat them with cream cheese and meetvursti.

Sweet topping though? That sounds wrong and disgusting

  5. No jam!

If anything, I would go with some cheese or maaaybe cold cuts (leikkele). If you warm them up, a bit of butter to melt on top is nice.

  6. There are many “only munavoi ffs” people here. Personally I like my pies with any salty toppings, what i would eat my bread with. Even if it’s not the most traditional way.

That being said, if no one was watching, i could try one with jam.

  7. If I get them fresh, like no frozen-heated-in-the-stove, but fresh then munavoi is the only possibility. If you use the packaged fresh but not frozen, then I use it like regular bread, mainly warmed-up in the toaster or prepared as warm sandwiches (with ham, pickles and cheese) micro/stove.

The frozen ones (after heating, ofc) should be bathed in butter (no substitutes) and eaten as such.

  8. Sounds good 👍 dont let these small minded finns in the comments hold you down, you do you and put anything you want on the Piirakka

  9. First, I put them in the toaster to warm them up. Then, spread some Oivariini and watch it melt, following with any cheese I have at the time.

  10. ”Munavoi” is the most common thing i think. Its just a mix of butter and eggs. If im at the store and buy karjalanpiirakka i might put a slice of ham on it or eat it as is. (To me it) Seems like you have the kind where there’s potato mash on it instead of the classic rice porridge and i couldnt tell what is good with them since i dont like them at all

  11. Munavoi, occasionally with a slice of cold-smoked salmon on top of munavoi, when there’s cause for celebration. (Easy way to fancy up the breakfast for eg mothers or Father’s Day)

  12. Munavoi is the best. Other options are cheese and ham and maybe sliced cucumber, or cheese and sliced boiled eggs with a little bit of salt on top. And/or avocado, smoked salmon, potato salad, herbs, brie cheese, blue cheese, any cheese, anything and everything savory.

  13. Jam?!?!!? I’ve never met anyone who has put jam on their karjalanpiirakka so i’m bit confused about your choices, but you do you.🫤

  14. I’m more upset about the fact that it seems to be a perunapiirakka… rice is far superior. As for toppings munavoi is the OG, or cream cheese and smoked salmon is good too. Don’t think I’ve ever eaten one with a sweet topping but no hate – you do you 😀

  15. I’m not purist but I probably won’t be trying with jam. Maybe.

My favourites are either with munavoi (preferably made with eggs where the yolks are still a bit custardy) or like a little mini sandwich, with butter or Philadelphia and either cold smoked salmon or some semihard cheese + meat cold cut.

  16. Well, it’s definitely not the way the piirakka is usually served or eaten, but I find it pretty interesting to try once. I love cheese and honey together (which is controversial for some guys as well), so this combo doesn’t scary me, otherwise it’s intriguing. Enjoy if you enjoy it this way! ☺️

  17. Those looks like potato pies instead of karelian pies, right? Jam does seems pretty sacrelidge to me. Those pies are savory, not sweet.

  18. When I’m feeling blasphemous, I like raspberry jam and Oltermanni or other mild cheese on it.

    Don’t @ me.

  19. Excellent choice of jam btw. Munavoi or cheese and a slice of meat usually it’s such an everyday food I don’t get any fancy ideas like putting avocado and orange slices on it.

  20. Munavoi is really good but cumbersome to make. My thing is venäläinen meetwursti and a slice of aged cheese. God damn that is good. Edit: oh and also include butter in the meetwursti cheese combo
