Girl, 6, mauled by pack of dogs while playing as brave pedestrians fought them

  1. Horrible. Owners of dogs that do this should go to prison. And they should ban all of these aggressive breeds. Poor little girl.

  2. The only answer is owners being directly liable for the crimes of their dogs with equitable sentences.

If a dog kills a kid, the owner gets a life sentence.

You’ll quickly find dangerous dog breads become less popular.

  3. What is up with the insane amount of pitbulls in the UK ?

I thought this madness was mostly limited to shitty parts of US

  4. We accept that retrievers fetch, collies herd and yet people still argue bullies are only aggressive if trained to be. These dogs need completely banning

  5. Look, I’ve had Pitbulls and Bullies before. Yes, they can be sweet dogs, but they are too strong and aggressive. Those breeds attract shithead owners who want an aggressive dog. For the record, I’ve also had Rottweilers and they don’t come close to the aggression and strength that Pitbulls have

Here in Malta Pitbulls are common and you see people who barely have the strength to hold them walking them down the street – where the dog is pulling *them*. Does that sound like a responsible owner to you?

People love to bring up “Chihuahuas are aggressive too” but when was the last time a Chihuahua killed someone? If a Chihuahua bites you, you’d barely feel it and you can kick the bastard away. Try kicking a Staffy or Bully and see if you’ll still have your leg after they react.

And yes, you can train them of course, but they are still immensely territorial and a loud noise can set them off.

These breeds needs to die out. Make owning them require a license, prosecute breeders, make advertising those breeds illegal, and stop this madness.

**EDIT:** [That’s not even getting into the fact that this terrible breeding results in dogs with a myriad of health problems.](https://i.imgur.com/HX4DW8C.jpg) But people want to flaunt that they have a pedigree like it’s some grand social status. Fucking hell.

  6. The numbers are smaller, but otherwise this debate is very similar to the gun debate in America. It’s not the dog, its the owner, I shouldn’t be punished because of other bad owners, dogs are a British tradition, I need it for my protection, what about my freedom? How many more children have to die? etc, etc. Any sane person from the outside looking in can see the problem and the obvious solution.

  7. You people are missing the point. Only a good pitbull can take out a bad pitbull, so we need more of those dogs.

  8. When will the government take notice of this? Its fucking ludicrous now. The dogs should have been shot on sight by armed police. Fuck the owners, they should be charged with GBH. Ban these dogs now and restrict all dog ownership to licensed and background checked individuals.

  9. Five fucking dogs, it’s a miracle this poor girl is alive. One of these dogs is often enough to kill a child or even an adult.

I keep seeing stories like this and it’s gotten to the point where I’ll sarcastically utter “oh, I wonder which breed it is” before reading the article… and I’m never surprised.

These dogs don’t make suitable pets, period. It’s like walking around with a loaded gun, except the gun can spontaneously decide to jump out of your holster and shoot anyone at any time with no provocation. “Oh but it’s a good gun, it wouldn’t hurt a fly.”

I feel a bit sorry for the dogs as well tbh, we humans are the ones putting them in situations where they can harm or even kill a human and then when they inevitably do, they have to be destroyed for it. They are not suitable to be domestic pets. We don’t walk around with tigers or lions in the street, we shouldn’t walk around with bully dogs either.

  10. Fucking hell. Just enforce the fucking spaying mandate on these breeds so they can die the fuck out. It’s ridiculous, it seems like every other day uk gets a dog attack and magically all of them have “bully” in their name. No, I don’t give a fuck about nanny dog myth. Evidence state that pitbulls and xl bullies and whatever you want to call them to circumvent the ban, are anything BUT nanny dogs.

  11. My friend recently got a miniature American Bully puppy, I have a 10 year old golden retriever. Their personalities couldn’t be more different. When my dog was a puppy, the only time she would bite was when she was teething, she wouldn’t properly bite, she would nibble lightly at the ankles and would stop when told so. In comparison, my friends American Bully jumps up, grabs onto anything, arm, leg, clothing etc and will bite so hard and shake, even when this dog was really tiny I had a difficult time releasing it’s grip. The American Bully seems to prefer to play physically with people and other dogs rather than toys. Now the American Bully is a bit older, I suggested to my friend walking our dogs together. My dog has never bitten anyone, she’s so lovely and well behaved naturally, we took her to training as a puppy but she isn’t the brightest and wasn’t that great! But she is just naturally a very nice dog. On our walks with both of the dogs, the American Bully constantly jumped up at my dog, trying to bite for the whole hour, it got the point where my dog was showing her teeth and growling, I have never seen my dog behave like this. It’s like the American Bully doesn’t know when to stop, the owner has taken the dog to training classes, however. My dog likes to explore, run around, pick up on scents, bite sticks, whereas the American Bully likes to chase and ‘play’ very rough with other dogs, whether the other dog likes it or not. My dog likes a good play too, but not in the way the American Bully does, if a dog isn’t reciprocating her energy, she stops. Different breeds just have different temperaments of course but I do agree agree that certain breeds should not be allowed round the public, I also believe that a level of dog training should be mandatory if one is to own a dog.

  12. I really do believe we need to start regulating and licensing dog breeding in the UK. You need to apply for a license to breed your dog, and will be audited to ensure that you’re breeding the breeds you’re licensed for and that they’re in good conditions. Anyone without a license needs to neuter their dog. Anyone found not following these will receive a hefty fine.

Hopefully this would eliminate the breeding of aggressive breeds, perhaps regulate people breeding accessory dogs that come with a host of health issues, and dogs being treated like brood mares in awful conditions.

Truthfully, I don’t know how we could implement this with already limited funds, but it would tackle so much of the problems we have at the source.

  13. Breed living up to its American origins. Nasty dog that needs banning asap, and anyone who owns one is likely a criminal as well

  14. Go on Facebook or Instagram and soon enough you’ll see a page or two selling these dogs. You can make an absolute fortune from it so there’s loads of people doing it, making £8-10k+ for a litter, it’s absolutely crazy so any old nob head is doing it. There was an article recently about a boy that got attacked by them and that person had been breeding them in a caravan on the drive…. I’m sure it said they had about 14 dogs at one point in this three bed semi on an estate. There’s always rubbish on the advert about how it’s a certain bloodline etc. Grim situation.

  15. One of my family has been landed with one of these dogs and I dislike it. It doesn’t even look fun to own. All it does is attempt to eat all the food in the house, snap at you, and tug at it’s lead. What’s the point when you can’t relax around it for a moment. It’s got no recall, so they can’t let it run, and it takes a full grown man to hold on to it.

  16. Ironic that while Rishi is launching a tirade of shite against so called “anti-social” behaviour, the people walking around with badly trained killing machines aren’t the top targets, instead it’s potentially vulnerable renters, teenagers, and refugees.

  17. Remember when you needed a license to own a dog, and you could lose that license if you demonstrated unfitness?

    I remember.

  18. As more and more of these incidents happen the voices shouting “but it’s the owner not the breed” and insisting that it’s somehow racist for there to be something wrong with a dog breed are getting quieter and being drowned out by the weight of public sentiment.

We all accept that dogs have been bred for their behaviour and possess breed traits.

Samoyeds and Golden Retrievers are notoriously friendly.

Whippets are ridiculously lazy. One zoom, much nap. My great aunt used to send us kids to play with them by asking us to check they weren’t dead. Think that was a family joke lol.

Collies are intelligent herding dogs with complex personalities that need a lot of work and exercise.

Herding dogs herd. They bark and some of them even nip (if it hasn’t been trained out of them) and they often believe they are in charge of where things should be.

My Corgis are pets, we’ve kept them for generations – but they are herding dogs and it is in their little doggy DNA, carved into their brains, it’s a compulsion. Mine herd us to bed at bed time and won’t take no for an answer.

Quite common from what I’ve heard from other owners.

Fighting dogs have been bred to fight. When they snap they go berserk and *will not stop*. Theres plenty of videos of these things (and similar breeds) with people frantically trying to get them off.

You wouldn’t let me own a pet tiger – it’s hazardous for everyone around it when it decides that it wants some long pig. So it’s very reasonably banned as a danger to everyone.

So why can people own a pack of fighting dogs?

  19. I’m sick of the obsession in this country with dogs of a certain type, and the dog crap being left on the pavement by some too.

Get a Labrador or a border collie

There are too many of these attacks happening

  20. Compulsory muzzle in public for all powerful breads. Especially bully breads, prey drive of a Jack Russell and bite force of a rottweiler should be banned.

It’s insane that these weapons are wandering around amongst kids.

  21. Pit bull, American “bully”, Bandogs (remember them?) I agree with banning or at least making ownership unattractive/incredibly expensive and bureaucratic and actually **enforced**

I’m not in favour of (true) Staffordshire bull terriers, English bull terriers, English bulldogs etc being banned – in my experience these are breeds being unfairly tarred by the reputation of the above.

One of the problems with the banning of pit bulls has been that a similar dog in terms of physical appearance (Staffie) have been made a scapegoat for people owning pit bulls and calling them something else to avoid suspicion of keeping a banned animal.

  22. A neighbour recently acquired an American Mastiff. Assures me that it’s very gentle, would not hurt a fly etc. But honestly, it made me feel very uncomfortable. It’s fucking massive, and just pure solid muscle. If it went for me, or anyone else, I’d have absolutely no chance. Not sure how I feel about people being able to keep pets like that.

  23. My dog was attacked by a pitbull-type breed when he was only 10 months old. Wouldn’t release him until I’d punched it in the head multiple times over a 30-second period… the owner then called her husband, who threatened me with legal action.

Most owners of this breed are nuts.

  24. I wonder what kind of dog it is, must be those vicious chihuahuas at it again!

    >five American bully dogs

    Surprise sur-fucking-prise

  25. Such sweet animals, lovely family pets. They need banning. If you want a family pet, get a golden retriever. Stop pretending you don’t just to intimidate people

  26. I don’t think people who don’t know how to take care of their dogs have them.

Some people make their dogs really aggressive and don’t of end up attacking the people and you don’t want that.
