Jeremy Corbyn ‘albatross round Labour’s neck’ and won’t be missed, says Wes Streeting

  1. Jon Lansman claiming that Starmer is acting like an authoritarian is hilariously hypocritical. Momentum, Lansman’s creation, is a highly authoritarian movement.

Corbyn’s got his victim armband on too, claiming he’s “being intimidated into silence”. He’s as free to speak or even stand for Parliament as the next person on the Clapham Omnibus is. He just doesn’t get to use the Labour Party as his vehicle.

  2. I probably wouldn’t miss Corbyn at all if I hadn’t seen something of what Labour has become without him.

  3. Man who set fire to a pet shop to impress some toffs wants to talk about albatrosses round the party’s neck.

  4. This really is the crux of it.

Corbyn is wrong on some things, right about an awful lot and generally a good person.

He was absolutely obliterated in a coordinated effort by the right wing media. He has become a hated figure in a way COMPLETELY disproportionate to his overall character. He is disliked more than Prince Andrew, a nonce who by almost all accounts is a terrible person who treats staff horribly and has temper tantrums.

But. The reality is that Corbyn is what he is with the wider public, it’s wrong and unfortunate but Starmer has to be extremely ruthless when it comes to ensuring Labour are elected and that is entirely all that matters right now.

The Tory 2019 intake were a huge mistake. A massive, highly destructive, self serving bunch of A-Grade morons that have done very serious damage to the country. People very much don’t realise just how bad the slide has been, and how great the stakes are and how quickly the country needs serious change and a few grown ups in the room.

Tories need to lose badly, Labour have a lot of cleaning up to do and Corbyn stands in the way of that, particularly because even when in the party he acted like an independent.

Again, I feel very sorry for Corbyn, but I agree entirely with Starmer.

  5. Whatever you believe of the right or wrong of this its undoubtedly the correct strategy.

The tories have gotten rid of Bojo and Labour JC, both can now say “well we took a stance against that” and both have lost that angle of attack.

    They didnt have a choice.

  6. As a left wing voter, given they’ve done literally nothing to win me over, and everything to make me feel unwelcome in the party, I guess my vote is an albatross weighing them down as well.

And before some smug liberal comes along and shouts that I’m enabling the tories- Tell it to Starmer. It’s his job to earn my vote, not my job to give it to him because he has a red rosette.

  7. I am not convinced that he had been defeated badly in GE, and i don’t think he would be worse than winning party PMs. Labour manifesto was elaborately explainimg changes and finances. Questions like Russia etc. are not really one man’s playground and I believe that he would understand the treath once being briefed daily with insights of experts. But, is Islington North, and Corbyn, really a problem ? Or is it the ideas they stand for ?Labour was about ideas and progress, not status quo, like now. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-7529/

  8. Starmer is a British establishment and Tory mole. Corbyn is the least of a labours troubles. I wasn’t a fan of corbyn but he was ousted on grounds of antisemitism and Starmer who move in is brazenly anti trans and not a supporter of a disenfranchised minority. He’s a total hack who is bending the part to suit Tory voters. He’s not labour. He’s not and will never be a man of the people. He’s a knight of the realm and a total benefactor of the British order.

  9. Well with the electorate he may well be an albatross, but then again the electorate voted for Boris Johnson, a man so obviously incapable that he was replaced by Liz fucking Truss who managed to cost taxpayers tens of billions in minutes, I’m going to infer the electorate are fucking idiots.

  10. > Labour leader is acting like an “authoritarian” and accused Starmer of “behaving as if he was some kind of Putin of the Labour Party”

Clearly not true, or Corbyn would be sucking up to him.
