Cyprus and Ireland, two divided EU Island nations. What are their similarities and differences?

  1. Similarity: People might get pissy if you start calling things “south”.

Difference: Our beer is blessed by the Archbishopic, theirs is blessed by Sucellus. We do have good wine.

  2. Similarities: both had bloody British bases in the south.

Happily RoI doesn’t have any as they told Britain to pack up their bags and go home. RoC still hasn’t done that. Sadly, 6 counties are still under the British control.

Differences: we don’t have Ulster Scots.

  3. The big difference is that in Northern Ireland, all the respective stakeholders (UK govt, Irish govt, paramilitaries etc) were able to put their big boy pants on and arrive at a peaceful compromise for moving forward.

Here, politicians on both sides seem unable or unwilling to budge or make concessions, to the detriment of Cyprus.

  4. Republic of northern cyprus????????
The north side is illegally occupied by turk’s army.
    There is only 1 cyprus.

  5. Cyprus is not a divided nation but an illegally occupied nation. The occupied land is not a different country. Only the British bases can be considered divided land since it’s British soil.
