The vote went to the second round – Humza Yousaf received 26,032 votes, compared to Kate Forbes’ 23,890.
In total, 72,169 people were eligible to vote, 50,494 valid ballots were cast – three were rejected.

Very sad and worrying day for Scotland and the UK as a whole.
He’s the best of the three by far, but it’s interesting that it was so close between him and Forbes. Their party’s in an odd state now.
I really do hope he matches Sturgeon’s demeanour and competence in power. A tiny part of me hopes it’ll all go wrong so Labour can have a better chance at taking back those seats, but good government in Scotland (and, incidentally, Wales) has been pretty reassuring through the Sturgeon years and I hope it continues.

If nobody has seen him react to debates and criticism, it’s brilliant for everyone except the SNP. He’s acerbic, sarcastic, sniping and takes things way too personally. Forbes might have weird religious views, but she can at least put on a pretence of giving a shit about other peoples opinions and is decent in debate. Yousaf, absolutely not. He’s either reading a script or flying off the handle when people *dare* ask him a question.
He has a personality and record that is incredibly off-putting. From being banned from driving and the disastrous ferries contract as Transport minister to his horrific record as health minister.
Scottish Labour must be breaking out the bubbly tonight. A close victory for the worst performer despite the backing of the Murrell Mob? Where 20,000+ members didn’t even vote? Where the other members have been questioning the legitimacy of the voting procedures?

So at what point do we accept that racism is a minor issue in the UK considering all the major leadership positions in the country are ethnic minorities (PM, Home Sec, London Mayor and Scottish FM)? There’s no problem with that of course and shows just how far we have come, but it gets a bit tiresome having the news dictate to us every day about racism and white privilege when clearly this is of questionable validity anymore.
