There should be a law that any landlord found to house someone in condition that are unsafe has house repossessed and turned into affordable social housing.
This is pretty shocking. Unsurprisingly though, the focus is on the unscrupulous landlords rather than the councils showering money over them.
Let’s be frank here, it’s the council’s duty to house these people, and if they wish to do so with private housing, then they should have robust contracts with harsh penalties for breaches.
Getting upset over shitty landlords is just a distraction from the people who are actually supposed to be ensuring that the homeless are well taken care of.
Out of all western countries, the two countries with the most extreme inequalites are the United States and the United Kingdom.
It’s a **political choice** that americans and britons made. It was not just the elites.
What both britons and americans have in common is they don’t care enough about one another. It’s reflected in their politics and tax policy. Until britons and americans start caring about one another, nothing will change.
Make it illegal for companies to own real estate for renting.
