Blanco partij. Voor mensen die zich niet gehoord worden. Een alternatief voor extreem stemmen om een signaal te geven.

Ook de stemplicht afschaffen. Partijen krijgen te veel stemmen cadeau vanwege “ik ben hier nu toch dus ik zal dan maar op … stemmen”. En dan verwonderd zijn dat je stem niks veranderd. Waarom zou er iets veranderen? Volgende keer krijg partij A of B opnieuw je lusteloze stem.

I could see politicians being so threatened by this they force through some very quick rule changes to block this from happening.
Of all the new parties, this one probably has the biggest chance to break through, but I have yet to see if they can maintain long term success without any other program.

Stel, 30% van de kiezers wil blanco stemmen. Voor de regeringscoalitie stemt 40%. 30% stemt voor een oppositiepartij.
Nu: de overige 70% van de stemmen worden verdeeld over 100% van de zetels. De regeringspartijen krijgen 40/70ste van de zetels. De oppositie 30/70ste.
Voorstel Blanco: 30% van de zetels blijft leeg. 40% van de zetels naar regering, 30% naar oppositie.
In beide gevallen is de stemverhouding gelijk. Alleen grondwetswijziging worden zo goed als onmogelijk. Degene met de meerderheid houdt die. Dit is dus geen extreme tegenstem, het is een extreme voorstem. Het lijkt alleen maar een tegenstem. Net zoals de thuisblijvers ook direct de huidige machthebbers steunen.
Conclusie, wil je de huidige regering dwarszitten, stem dan op de oppositie.
De partij Blanco wil straks in heel België opkomen met maar één programmapunt: ‘blanco stemmen moeten leiden tot lege parlementszetels’.

This really needs to be a thing, it’s ridiculous that currently protest voters are voting for fascists just because they don’t like the traditional parties.

count me in! I was playing with the same idea from pure disgust of the current affairs.
(it would have been called: “Votes for sale” , for each x votes a ministerpost has to disapear, lowering of their renumeration or sharpening of rules around the “postjes”.)
I can only explain this in one of 3 ways after reading the introduction:
-A) This is fake news
-B) These people are lying oportunists that will use the seats for themselves should they rise to power
-C) They really want anarchy. The thing with politics is, you can NEVER make everyone happy. Politics is taking decisions and every decision has both upsides and downsides to it.
Including the decision to not take decisions.

IMO, these kinds of (well-meant) initiatives are detrimental to a functioning society. If this gains any traction, we will complain about political deadlocks making meaningful decision-making even more impossible. Empty seats aren’t going to fix democracy, only thoughtful action can. Extremist parties will get their voter base riled up one way or another.
Playing devil’s advocate, but wouldn’t this just benefit the remaining politicians? All of a sudden their votes carry more weight because there are fewer people in parliament.
Great, this constant reminder of empty seats must act as an incentive / a driver for all other ‘traditional’ parties to better work together. To not take things for granted, to put more effort in their proposals, to move away from the status quo. Maybe finally act together on themes, with changing coalitions instead of those boring and many times hollow government agreements. They really will need to work for those 2/3rd majority votes. I’m really pro this idea and also since years in favor for a blanco representation by empty seats.
Hopefully this will crumble the ‘I hate politics, so will vote rightwing’ attitude that is very common in Flanders. Other benefit is the potential lowering of the over emphasis on Flemish themes that parties tend to claim based on the overload of ‘foert’ voters they receive.
You have my blanco vote until a proper politician or party finally stands up again.
Obviously another way to reach more or less the same goal would be to stop the compulsion to vote. But this variant is somehow more democratic.
Wont work, its not as if seats are all filled now.
It would just reduce the option avaible and thus make our system even more rigid.
I thought many years ago already that someone should really do this. Great to hear that it´s actually coming alive. They definitely have my vote.

If this initiative gets traction, it will soon be undermined by all kind of underhand means. Misinformation, nicely worded slander, conspiracy stigma. Not saying it will happen, it just very likely might happen.
How will you counter a subtle propaganda war? Eg. If every news outlet broadcasts you as a trolling group of 20yo students. Or you get placed in the same basket as conspiracy boomers etc etc.
Or: hire politicians like you would hire an employee.
If they screw up, are corrupt, etc. they get fired. Who gets to decide that? Well, and this might sound like a crazy idea but bear with me, the Belgian population gets to decide.
Unfortunately the same morons who are against this type of direct accountability will complain endlessly how the political system is corrupt and broken.
Oh, ok.
