Hello people of Norway, I just bought this at Vaffle & Vintage and I am wondering who is the state representing? A king? Pagan deity? Or Something Christian maybe??

Any help is appreciated! Takk!

  1. IF it’s meant to represent anyone in particular it’s probably a king or a saint. The style seems to be high medieval, so well into the Christian period, but it could be a depiction of someone much older. If it’s Norwegian Saint Olav is the most likely candidate, but as someone else already commented, it doesn’t fit with the traditional depiction.

That said it is basically impossible to find out who it is without any further information. My best guess is it’s no one in particular; just a modern replica taking inspo from older art.

  2. I think it’s just an imitation of a medieval carving and isn’t meant to portray anyone in particular. The fact that he has a sword *and* fancy clothing suggests that he’s supposed to be a king.

It is possible that he’s supposed to be a specific king, but I don’t know enough about the symbolism to tell. From the face though I’d say he’s supposed to be the Burger King

  3. Imitation 13th century carving, doesn’t have an ax so probably not St. Olaf. If it represents anyone in particular it’s probably either Magnus Erlingsson or Haakon Haakonson judging by the European-style clothing, but could be another Bagler.
