What does it even mean “in additional”? There is no plausible scenario whereby an European army is created and the national armies themselves don’t become weaker because of that. The units assigned under European army don’t spring out of thin air. Even if they train them separately, the military expenditure and drafting pool will still be affected.
Funny how they also asked non EU countries.
The graphic is adding the answers “yes, absolutely” and “yes, somewhat” together. To me there is a stark difference between the two. “Somewhat” can mean a lot in this context. A *somewhat* joint european army for example could just mean a paper tiger without any obligations.
Why did they ask Belarus lol
The higher the number, the higher the delusion.
I, as a Swede, am fine with Nato only. But I won’t go to the streets if my government and EU find it would be a good thing. Sounds like a source to conflicts by interest , though
Good post, in another thread a comment was making the claim that Eastern European countries bordering Russia do not favour an EU army in contrast to western European countries. This post refutes that.
Also surprised that it is Estonia the one not favouring an EU army.
How do you get a EU Army without reducing current EU member state armies ?
And for a EU person looking to join a national army vs EU Army, why would one join national army, if the EU Army offers better pay, conditions, growth or vice versa ?
In **addition** to their national armies? That will be a little pricey, no?
Or is this the first step of a larger plan where the end goal is for the national European armies to eventually become _state_ national guards?
Like in the US where a European President can activate and federalize the national guards into the European Army whenever necessary?
No, daft idea.
It really depends on the mission of a joint army.
If it is purely defensive, I am all for it. If it is used to push “military interventions” past our parliament, I am against it.
Responses: “yes, absolutely”, “yes, somewhat”
I don’t think it’s well constructed poll
whoa did not expect 31%…
Why are they ezcluding russia and turkey when they so clearly are asking all europeans nations?
Poland 🤝 Lithuania 🤝 Ukraine
Interestingly an non-eu country (Kosovo) has the highest percentage of all.
One European army with one command.
No national forces duplicating everything
A true partner for the US and have NATO be the organisation that overseas everything which would simplify a lot
It may go like this:
>It is with great reluctance that I have agreed to this calling. I love democracy. I love the Republic. Once this crisis has abated, I will lay down the powers you have given me!
>
>And as my first act with this new authority, I will create a **grand army of the Republic** to counter the increasing threats of the Separatists.
Yes. But only if we kick out the American occupators first.
I do not want Berlusconi, Orban, Le Pen and their likes to get an army that they can manipulate and use for various evil projects.
I don’t want an army for other projects than maintaining a peace. No invasion of Afghanistan or slaughter based on lies.
Our neighbours should not have base their safety on being able to defend against us.
I’d see many bureaucratic and logistical problems.
Like how would a non English/French/German speaker understand high orders in time for an efficient execution of plans?
Oh, great, who are we fighting?
I mean, isn’t NATO already doing that basically?
Turkey is missing
Yes because rhe fucking unbearable cost of having to arm ourselves to defend against a potentially aggressive neighbor would be somewhat lower and perhaps distributed within the EU or made us in a position to not be at the mercy of the aggressive neighbor
There shouldn’t be an EU army, we have NATO with decades of preparation and planning behind it. The EU is too slow and clumsy – for reference see the beginning of the covid vaccine rollout for their response to an emergency. The EU is good for other things, not this.
The war in Russia has really made me appreciate the existence of NATO. Theoretically though, whent his is over, I think it would me great if we would defend our borders ourselves without the depending on the US.
Why beloruzzia included?
Nice to see that majority supports that.
Another step for EU 🇪🇺
If it meant getting rid of US influence, then yes, absolutely.
I am delighted to see Ukraine in this kind of maps.
