The thought of having kids will burn me out before having them.
Some told me you can only have a burn out from your job, and not from your house hold.
I disagree, kids and housework and a job : burn out ready
..
Huh, it’s almost as if going from a 40h work week with a household and children, to a 76 hour work week with a household and children, is insane… Well, at least society has fully realized women have started working and adapted it’s work and school rythm to be very flexible…
Seriously now, as a parent I’d say it’s hard but well worth it. You’re pushing yourself to the limit, but you’re also growing as a person while growing a person. Personally, I didn’t see the appeal of repeating the same life acts over and over, so parenthood seemed the next natural act.
Burn out is only a problem if there is no more fuel and a cinder available.
I see it with my neighbour and the reason is: two spoiled and cheeky pre-teen brats.
He established no boundaries when they were younger; allowed their behaviour to go unchecked and now that they were a bit older, he cannot control them.
Thus, for him, no sympathy. Kids now believe that they are entitled. Not happening if I have kids!
Me at 2 PM watching napping Small One: God, I love that boy
Me at 2 AM trying to soothe a screaming demon: YEET THE CHILD
Regretting having children is one of the biggest taboos in our society, so I am not surprised.
In my experience it’s the combination kids-work that’s super heavy. Very few Belgian managers are understanding or willing to accomodate for family life. Most either have no kids, adult kids or have outsourced their kids to grandparents or nannies.
One manager was reporting me as inflexible as I wouldn’t leave on a 2 week business trip one month after my daughter was born. He literally asked if de bomma couldn’t jump in.
Other managers frequently schedule meetings in timeslots I’ve marked as busy because I need to get my kids from day care and get angry when I decline to attend. Sure, dude, I’ll just leave them waiting on the sidewalk for a couple of hours, no probs.
And yeah, you just have way less free time and thus way less time to recuperate.
