Just raise the pension age already to 68 or 69 ~ spend the extra money on housing, families, shelter for the homeless etc. plenty of place for that money.
Another ticking timebomb. I can’t see any government taking decisive action and raising the pension age so the funding gap is just going to get worse.
what kind of a ponzi scheme is this? ,why is my money not paying my pension, when I retire, not the current rwtirees?

Great timing…
This should act as a reminder for anyone to start investing in a private pension…
If you’re on a higher tax bracket and you see how much you pay each month knowing you mightn’t ever get to see some of that back as state pension, it’s fucking sickening.
Not to be dramatic but it’s hard not to sometimes feel like folks aged 20 – 40 right now are working just to elevate the previous generation’s position.
So basically my pension age drifting away. Roofer 45 with right knee to be replaced another 21 years to go and they give you 5 to 15 years for knee,🫣
Are people surprised? There won’t be a state pension by the time I retire and I’ve always known this
I’m so glad at 21 when I staed my first business that I was advised by AIB to open a pension also, because I will most likely never see a state pension as it’ll be 85 by the time I reach retirement age
How does this affect a civil servants pension?
This is why they need to bring in the new pension scheme that was pushed back, where they contribute money for money that you put in. They also need to invest money collected, and finally create a pension account for every child born and invest it. With a palty sum of money it would be quite a decent bit by the time they retire.
The government should bring in euthanasia as part of a pension reform. That would be one option I would go for 100%. Retire at 70 and live out a few years and then in the late 70s or early 80s opt out from life in a humane way. There’s a few health conditions that I never want but if I was ever diagnosed with them, I would opt for euthanasia. I don’t want to live to be old and have someone else look after me.
Some interesting thoughts here….. thought i guess Ireland is a rare developed economy that is more supply than demand constrained?
See this is why we need some emigration into the country, specifically people coming here to work and pay tax to start filling the gaps that we will have due to lower birth rates.
Raising the age of retirement just a little bit might be controversial, but it would be beneficial and people are living longer nowadays. Although I do feel like people who have worked hard their whole lives deserve a chance to enjoy life while they’re still young and healthy enough to do it.
I think we are only going to have a few decades were this is an issue though and it will balance itself out as the population levels out.
Listening to that guy on radio earlier they didn’t give him enough time felt like barely a few minutes and sounds like our nations pension scheme is gonna one day just implode it’s not fit for purpose (apparently). Am tryna get my young brother 23 to look at some other side pension and doing one myself as getting worried we’ll all be working till we’re 80 at this rate government will once again say oops didn’t see that coming yet warning signs for years
Never forget the government used the pension fund to bail out the banks
