Sweat, blood and tears are needed for good strawberrys. Adds to the flavour.
We are all being exploited in Europe. If only there was a way to rise up and change the structure used to keep us down.

Same conditions in strawberry farms in Greece unfortunately. This seems very close to a modern version of slavery.
Abusive working conditions endemic in Spain’s ~~strawberry farms~~, report claims
Fixed.
Exactly the same in Portugal. Government knows for some time, there have been some scandals but nothing changed.
Spanish Councils know it, Spanish Regional Governments know it, Spanish Central Government knows it, the EC knows it, etc. Nobody gives a shit about it. Shame on them.
No way! Even after years of knowing about the abusive and slave like conditions illegal African migrants work in the greenhouses of Almeria, I cannot imagine that this would happen in other parts of Europe too! But lets jump on our high horse again and criticize other countries for treating their immigrant workers like shit while ignoring what’s going on in our own country.
Ahh just modern slavery, nothing to see here…
Been there done that, well in Portugal, and for even less money, except here it’s legal because the minimum wage is much lower.
Huelva for Strawberries, Valencia for Oranges and Almería (el Ejido) for Tomatoes and I guess other vegetables and fruits. The situation is kinda shady. In Italy there are situations like these as well, just less obvious and hidden better.
This is just hypocrisy we criticize other countries for human and workers rights but we don’t hesitate in doing the same for having cheap strawberries in our supermarket shelves, the thing is that those strawberries not only are cheap and coming from workers abuse but they also don’t taste that good anymore. Intensive agriculture doesn’t seem that good as some like to claim in their marketing campaigns.
Same thing happened in Ireland. During the lockdown when everyone was not allowed to travel we had companies importing people to pick strawberries and with the governments approval. Just using people for cheap labour.
