The funding was our money in the first place just with the EU taking a cut! So the title should be the UK government cancelled back to work schemes!
ThE eU dId NoThInG fOr Us!
The amount of EU funding turned away by Westminster because they required a small amount of matching funds and lol why waste a penny on northern monkeys amirite?
There were back to work schemes?
When my friend tried to find some training or apprenticeship, all she could find were those scammy training centres, that charge hundreds or thousands of pounds for shoddy training and then blame you for not trying enough to learn etc.
This is a real shame, I did this and it was massive help in getting back into work after illness. The advisor helped me every step of the way.
I remember when brexit came this was one of the small things I knew we’d lose.
“We’re going to get older people back into work by… *checks notes*… cutting support for people to get back to work.”
At least we still have the DWP and the Job Centre to help get people back into work. Their schemes have always been a roaring success at getting people into decently paid employment.
Also this was something easily abused by “host” employers who got cheap labour for you working for them.
Nobody could have predicted this, absolutely nobody, out of nowhere it came. Total shock!
Since we’ve left the EU, the UK actually saves around £12 billion per year (according to the parliament website). There’s no reason why this funding can’t continue, other than the govt using Brexit as an excuse to end it and have people argue with each other rather than point blame at them.
