  1. No matter where you fall on how tolerable SF’s populist streak is, everything Mary Lou said here is right. We all know deep down the eviction ban had to end, but not adequately expanding emergency accommodation or making any plans for how to deal with the fallout from it was just pure cruelty. Either that or it’s the most evil form of lethargy I’ve ever seen.

I don’t expect the no confidence motion to pass but I absolutely don’t have confidence in them and I feel that anybody under 40 who isn’t rich should feel the same.

  2. Besides raising taxes what will SF change?

I don’t any of the parties can deliver the reforms we need.

I’d rather hang on to my hard earned income.

  3. Is she expecting that the government would hear her speech and resign? Surely she knows that’s not going to happen.

  4. I agree with much of what she says, but SF are not the solution. I don’t know who in Ireland is. Maybe we outsource governing to a half way decent set of people – maybe the Swiss?

  5. Great sound bites, should be expected of SF and MCDonnell to make these kind of speeches. Sooner or later the coalition will fracture and the country will get a choice. SF will maybe come into power and FF and FG and the civil service and local parish pump politics will curb their ambitions too. We’ll see the same lack of delivery and then like all the problems politicians don’t particularly like to put their neck on the block for, someone will suggest a citizens assembly to take the politics out of it. It’s now 2033 and with no prospect of any change, some other new political force will come on the scene proposing solutions to a problem that seem so easy, it’s hard to imagine why we didn’t try them before. Rinse and repeat until the end of time.

  6. I’m sure FF/FG would say the same about SF being in power.

they are all disingenuous pathological liars. don’t believe any of them.

  7. I don’t want a GE now, but I do think we need one sooner rather than in 2025.

As a pressure release if nothing else.

  8. IF FG and FF get absolutely hammered in the next election, I hope they’ll have the good grace to fuck off forever. None of this “We’ve listened and we’ll go away and reflect”. No fuck off. Your not listening now, or you are but just don’t care.

  9. While I have no problem with a landlord who genuinely wants to sell their property, I do have a huge problem with landlords who evict tenants so they can either increase their rent or rent it on air bnb which should be illegal.

Those calling for a general election need to protest outside the Dail during leaders debate. It happens around the world, people protesting against their government during the week, not weekend.

  10. Imagine the state of country if her and her dopey sidekicks got their hands on the wheel…

  11. The fucking wankers are laughing at us and her. She’s absolutely right and I don’t support SF. But she’s absolutely fucking right in every word.

I’m done with the current government they’ve robbed our parents and us blind for years. They’re vile disgusting cunts that don’t give a fuck about anyone below them.

They work for us and need to be reminded of it.

  12. In the last 30 seconds or so:

Does the lad next to Varadkar call McDonald a bitch

    And then Varadkar starts laughing?

Or am I going mental ?

His lips are mouthing ‘bitch”, right?

    🧐

  13. You can disagree with SF’s existence and policies but it has to be recognised that Mary Lou is one of best speakers in the Dáil we’ve ever had. Crystal clear and full of heart. It’s all populism sure, but it’s nice to hear a voice in their who is speaking up for Generation Rent and those in need. She’s would have made a great Tánaiste, what a shame that FF went in with FG in the end

  14. Housing really is an issue that cuts to the core of the future of the country. Whether your children will be able to stay and have a decent living.

You have to go against the entrenched interests who have the most to lose from affordable housing.

Many of my generation (myself included) were pushed out by a lack of opportunity and jobs, and the young now are getting pushed out by the unevenness of opportunity.

I’ve never been a fan of SF, and I am not sure that their policies would be effective in the space that Ireland always seems to find itself in, but on this she is right.
