On this day in 1782, in Annonay, France, the Montgolfier brothers experience the first flight of a balloon, built by them, which using only hot air, is able to rise about 2000 meters above the ground. The following year the first free flight with transport of human crew takes place.

Let us not forget about this documentary using real footage of the Montgolfier brothers, called [The Golden Age of Ballooning](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6gf7nt). It’s really exhilarating to see the brothers work together as they really were, not just a silly recapitulation in text by people who weren’t actually there. Fantastic documentary.
