Renault 4 was the unsung hero of the Irish countryside.
Seen a P&T van not too long ago, one with the sliding doors. Looked in great condition.
1987? If you told me that was from 1957, I’d believe you.
Filming in Blackrock?
P&T or GTFO
Postman Paddy
Perfect for an EV conversion!
My first car was a Renault 4 and even though people mocked me for it, it was awesome.
The Air conditioning was a flap that opened up a hole in the dash to the outside so you knew you were getting real fresh air.
The suspension was very comfortable and soft and yet the car rolled so much that you got ample warning long before you were likely to lose grip. I never lost control going around corners.
The gear box was actually in the front of the engine so the gear stick was a hockey stick shaped pole with a loop at the end that you pushed and pulled from inside the cockpit to change the gears.
The windows didn’t wind down. they slid forward and backwards.
It is the only car I ever owned where it was possible to wrap the speedometer around the dial, going downhill with a trailing wind. It only went up to 80mph.
Edit: It was the Renault 4 GTL to be precise. This was a later model with a bigger 1100cc engine and a go-faster stripe. If it came with other luxury features I didn’t notice.
Can you imagine if the lads had to drive them today.. .😁
Anyone remember the GPO nightclub in Galway? When it opened first they had one of these (in the older orange and white P&T livery) as the dj box
Edit: The Co Sligo town I grew up in had one of these (the 4 door version) for a squad car in the mid 80s
I’d fly around the place in that, blaring Regulate by Warren G.
Bit late with the post!
The Nenagh Solemn Novena Van (sung to the tune of ‘son of a preacher man’)
They probably had fewer stupid fucking signs polluting the towns back in the 80s. Must be hard to film anything without the things.
I drive by this lad in Fairview all the time on the way to work,I’m pretty sure he’s a working postie, young lad too.
“This is where the magic happens”.
That’s class
Shouldn’t it say “p&t” on the side?
Edit: oh wait, that’s when they were orange and white (if memory serves me)
It is vintage now, isn’t it.
I’m identifying as that van from now on.
Blackrock, it is there every day on my way to work.
