Tried mämmi once a few years ago expecting chocolate. I was quite surprised.

I didn’t have any vanilla sauce so I just put maple syrup and a bit of vanilla sugar on it. It was surprisingly ok.

One of our cat loves this so much that he starts purring from the very first lick  He loves cream too, so with or without cream, mämmi is perfect! Sometimes we doubt if he’s actually a cat.
Origin of mämmi probably has something to do with a starving peasant with old rotting rye flour sitting around.
I honestly thought this was a twisted euphemism for what treasures one can find once the snow melts.
My child is really picky and doesn’t really like any food, but strangely enough, she loves mämmi and talks about it often during the year.
I can only eat this if 60% is vanilla sauce or cream
