Finland joins NATO in historic shift, Russia threatens ‘counter-measures’

  1. At this point i dont even know which is more useless, the russian threats or the actual russian military capability…. both are feeling like a joke at the moment.

  2. If this weren’t serious I’d mention the Winter War troops they left behind,

So: Geopolitically, Russia can eat shit.
Historically, I appreciate the Molotov cocktail but NATO makes it much less likely for something Karelia v2 and shifty treatises involving anything. Not that they have anything to take but shit….
This is purely a demonstration of hard line (“No touchy, as in, if you think about it longer than a moment… why? It’s not in play unless you’re triggering the article.” Denying even the fantasy of messing through Finland is the sting), and it’s poetic for the NATO boundary against a hostile nation to shaped by **sisu.** Not another step! It’s a boundary worth dying over, personally- in my opinion I would die anywhere in the world (precipitating conflicts, etc) for this proverbial hill.

  3. Wait.. I thought they said they didn’t care if Finland joined. And haven’t they said there’d be ‘countermeasures’ for pretty much everything we’ve done for the last year? They’re sounding like a broken record…

  4. >Russia threatens ‘counter-measures’

Yeah yeah. If that helps them cope then let them threaten us all they want. Literally nobody cares.

  5. This should be under meme/jokes, not serious. Russia threatens Finland like weekly. It would be more odd if they didn’t. 😂

  6. The title is slightly odd because of course Russia would threaten with “counter-measures”, like it literally has to when it comes to posturing. Although it’s unclear what it can realistically do right now, since most of the assets from WMD (western military district, not weapons of mass destruction) are employed in Ukraine. Probably just more deployed forces during peacetime in the border region, as there has been very, very little previously.

So it would be more interesting to know what the actual countermeasures would be realistically. Russia will obviously be vague about that, but at least have an analyst explaining the spectrum of possibilities. Preferably an analyst that isn’t from Germany.

  7. They still have military not engaged in Ukraine, so they’ll put some of those along the Finnish border. Maybe violate some airspace and claim it was an accident. But they won’t do anything real. They’re scared of NATO.

  8. Rus to Finland: Come here and get bread to eat.
Finland to Rus: Come here and get some butter for your bread.
