Manchester mayor Andy Burnham to pay almost £2k speeding fine

  1. I’m not sure about that specific section, but the M60 is a disaster class around that side. It’s not uncommon for me to join with a 40MPH limit signed on the slip road, only to find myself in full-flow “70MPH” traffic, with all of the signs blank.

Same whenever there’s roadworks (basically every night). They put the limits on for a section, which bears no relation to where the crews are, then the signs just start going blank and you have the full gamut of behaviours on display – from “must be NSL, back to 70” to “no change indicated, must still be 40”, with all the cautious indecisive speeds in-between, and everybody wondering if they’re about to drive into the back of the mystery highways vehicle. Fucking dangerous.

What the fuck am I supposed to do, pick my own limit? just have a guess?

On the southern M1/M6 & M25 VSL zones, the gantries do this novel thing where they just display the fucking speed limit or NSL sign so that everybody is clear on what’s happening. I cannot understand why it’s not the same everywhere.

Anyway – no idea if that’s what caught Andy Burnham out, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Also not surprised that he doesn’t want to argue the point and drag the story out.

  2. The true headline should be:

*Politician accepts responsibility for own actions.*

He’s still The King in the North.

  3. A few years ago i was on the southbound m1 in a section where they were still installing “smart” gantries, there was about 44 miles of works but not constant. Some sections were operating and there was also other roadworks. I got a ticket for doing 64 in a 50 at one point.

I went back a week later at the same time and recorded the section from my phone on the dash. Then when i watched it back, I counted the times the speed was changed.. I also tried to count the number of signs visible regarding speed

In that section there were 33 changes to speed. In terms of signs, I counted 500 before I gave up. I’ve never been more distracted driving.

  4. When my eyes first laid eyes on this I thought he was jumping on the ‘look how much tax i paid’ band wagon and i thought Mayor Guyliner only paid £2k.

  5. Just fucking make all the M roads unlimited drill into people lane discipline in the tests and fuck the speed cameras off. To go home, i have 5 hours at 70mph on roads you can definitely do more on and i see people doing 100+ all the time.

Alot of people will still do 60 and 70 but alot more people would do the speeds that are less safe but wouldn’t have to worry about cameras or looking down to the speedo so much

  6. All cars after the year 2000 should be able to do 80 on the motorway. Our traffic system is so backward, especially the arbitrary LGV restrictions.

  7. I mean Andy Burnham could bonnet me, and I still wouldn’t change my opinion if him. One of the few labour MPs who care.

Also shout out to Mike Amesbury for standing in the picket line!

  8. I’ve never been in a temporary speed limit that didn’t have signs screaming at me.
Just a case of arrogant self importance

  9. The speed limit is too slow and we’re not driving to road conditions anymore but what the sign above says which Is destroying Lane discipline and most people’s attention on the road that’s causing the problem

  10. Now they will have to pay the taxes for the things that they have done.

I mean why do always the common people have to pay the money the people who are making the rules and also breaking them should pay their share too.

  11. This is another reason to get a dashcam, had he got a video of his journey then he would have a record of his journey with the relevant speed signals displayed or not.

  12. Somebody needs to make a racing computer game with him as the main character, where your goal is to speed past cameras and rack up as many fines and penalty points as possible.

    Andy Burnout, maybe?

  13. Andy Burnham is a total waste of public funds. This man is desperately trying to destroy greenbelt for housing, whilst sprouting shite on CO2 emissions and the need to have a humongous caz zone. The zone has already wasted 63 million for cameras and signage. (Rumoured his wife works for key contractor).
And here the little Scouse prick is driving at almost twice the set limit. Instant ban should have been enforced.
We are gradually heading to George Orwell’s 1984, where the party members will be the only ones with heating and constant electricity. The only ones allowed motorized transport. We will all be held down by the wide scale corrupt ideologies of politicians.
