  1. Those taliban fighters were dangerous terrorists, it’s good that they’re dead. Obviously it would have been better had they not been indoctrinated by hardcore Muslims in the first place, but that’s not what happened.

  2. I didn’t (and still don’t) condone the war, but a soldier killing people they’re at war with is kind of the whole *point*, isn’t it? Did they ship out there for some banter over drinks, and a wee fight got a bit out of hand?

Also, considering the state of the Taliban, is anyone really and honestly going to take ‘their side’ on this?

People came back from that place fucked up. They saw and did stuff that would addle anyone’s brain. They came back to very little support from the government, particular with regard to mental health, and they went there in the first place under the impression they were going to actually do some good in the world. The fact of that being a shameful lie doesn’t mean they didn’t believe it. Some didn’t come back at all.

There’s a fucking huge difference between criticising a war and criticising a soldier. I have not been convinced back to voting Labour yet still, because of sending all these people to die for a lie (even though I appear to be in a tiny minority of people who are actually sickened by lies that kill people). But I still have plenty of compassion for the actual people.

  3. Can’t remember who it was, might have been Frankie Boyle, “Nothing says ‘spreading democracy’ like a hereditary prince murdering goat farmers from the seat of a multimillion dollar attack helicopter’

  4. What a sick world we live in where a spoilt brat kid who has been waited on hand and foot all his life goes to an impoverished country with his apache war machine and obliterates 20 men who never even stood a chance. 20 men who were probably farmers or herders before the “allies” invaded their country.

  5. I’ve actually read his book. His comments really weren’t that objectionable. He wasn’t glamourising or glorifying war. It’s clear people are just reacting to out of context quotes.

There are other more legitimate complaints to make, like the staggering lack of perspective for such a privileged person complaining about how hard his life is.

  6. This thread is hilarious. A lot of faux outrage.
I like that one user basically says “the problem is not him killing those people, but him talking about it”. People acting like he is the first soldier to acknowledge things they did on the battlefield.

Not like the Taliban would not gun him down be him a normal soldier or one who is royalty.

  7. So a Russian artist, in 2023, will be allowed to mock British royalty, IN Britain?? I don’t even know where to begin.
