According to Der Spiegel, a member of Porsche’s supervisory board has offered Putin help in rebuilding the car industry. Closed VW factories in Russia were supposed to serve this purpose.
According to the portal of the weekly “Der Spiegel” (7.04.2023), Austrian entrepreneur and member of the supervisory board of Porsche Siegfried Wolf offered Russian President Vladimir Putin help in rebuilding the Russian car industry. This happened before the end of January. In a letter to the head of the Kremlin, Wolf allegedly proposed the revival of the “legendary Russian brand Volga.” Wolf would like to use closed Volkswagen factories in Russia for this purpose .
Back to Soviet brands
According to Spiegel, the Austrian wrote to Putin that Skoda VW cars could be produced again in Russia as early as the second half of 2023. However, these vehicles should be “substantially redesigned externally” to bring out the “distinctive features” of the legendary Volga and Pobeda models. In this way, “the demand of Russian consumers for reliable, high-quality vehicles will be met” and more than 12,000 new jobs would be created. jobs.
Wolf also allegedly offered to take over the management of the project as the owner of the Russian company PromAvtoKonsalt. The industrial partner would be the Russian car manufacturer GAZ, which is affected by Western sanctions. He added that there was already a “substantive agreement with Volkswagen’s top management”.
Volkswagen denies
The Wolfsburg-based company denies it. The board had “no knowledge” of Wolf’s letter “and its irritating content”, the company explained in response to a question from “Spiegel”. PromAvtoKonsalt was among those interested in buying the VW plant in Russia, but there were no commitments to individual interested parties before the sale was completed. “Therefore, it is incomprehensible to us how this fact could be pointed out to third parties.”
The German portal further reports that Wolf’s company has not received a contract from VW. Herzogenaurach-based car supplier Schaeffler sold its Russian business to PromAvtoKonsalt.
Irredeemably stupid.
Porsche offering nazi’s their support revisited.
I could never afford a Porsche anyway.
“Krise kann auch geil sein”?
Didn’t Hugo boss make nazi uniforms and bmw made the gas chamber machines?
So a Volga at the price of a Porsche? The soviet times are really making a comeback arent they?
Volkswagen doing Volkswagen things
old habits die hard
Porsche 🇷🇺!!!
Traitors
An Austrian supporting Putin, what a surprise…
Tbf, Porsche is used to funding Nazis
Porsche was never good at making tanks anyway.
This is what I mean when I say Germany (and realistically Austria and Switzerland) can’t wait to reintegrate Russia back into Europe. There’s a genocide going on and these countries are trying to collaborate in reintegrating the genociders.
Pretty misleading headline, especially by DW standards.
The guy in question is a member of the _Porsche SE_ _ supervisory_ board. He’s got historic ties with Russia having long worked at a Russian firm and recently buying Schaeffler’s Russian business. It’s IMO not wise to have someone like this on the supervisory board given (not so) recent events.
But this makes it sound like sports car maker Porsche has some strange intent of going against sanctions to help Russia build the next generation of Ladas…
