  1. €12.00 an hour to be a manager?? Fucking hell.

Lad in the photo would have to work an entire day just to afford his barber.

  2. Lidl gets a lot of love online because they pay decent wages.

Problem is their stores are understaffed which allows them to pay the rest of the staff higher.

Their staff are worked off their feet, with headsets on. They’ll be in the bakery one minute, next thing a till is opened and they have to run there.

I remember one time there was one till open with a queue literally half way down the shop. Customers shouting up to the worker telling him to open another till. Frustrated worker just says “talk to the manager”. Manager comes up to the till to ask for “X” is. He’s told X is on lunch. Worker says he needs to go on lunch now and manager asks him to work another half an hour. Worker visibly frustrated agrees.

Proof is in the pudding that you never see anyone staying in Lidl for too long. You never see older workers in Lidl either.

Compare that to going into Tesco where workers will be casually filling the shelves or standing around at the self scan or checkouts.

  3. Since 1 January 2023, the national minimum wage is €11.30 per hour over here. Someone did the conversation from pound so Lidl is paying €14 – 19
You make minimum wage but can call yourself a manager.

  4. I dunno for sure what it’s like in Lidl UK, cause every regional lidl is technically a separate company and operates independently from each other(Lidl UK is separate from Lidl NI is separate from Lidl Ireland for example) but I reckon this has got to be a few years old surely. Here in the North the starting wage for a cashier just went up to £10.90, £12.00 if you’ve been there longer than 3 years, so I highly doubt the UK company would be lagging behind NI in terms of wages, normally it would be the other way around. Also management in NI is salaried, starting at ~25 -30k.

  5. I know a lad who a higher end manager there, seems like a really hood job tbh. Hard work, but it pays well, sweet company motor too.
