I have a job offer in Berlin, and plan to move sometime in June. Like the title of the post mentions, I need a little help in understanding how German rents work, as it seems really confusing by the looks of it. I was advised to get temporary accommodation for about 6 months while completing my probationary period. Till now I have been searching online for flats to rent. Is this the best way, or is there some other way to find better housing options as well, which I might have missed. I found these websites while I was searching:

First of all, is it even safe and reliable to book temporary housing this way? Also, the rents seem quite excessive as a proportion of the total income, especially given the warm rent part which, as I understood it, means that the rent may actually be more at the end of the year. The above temporary houses do include furniture, internet etc. in the rent, but I want to understand if this is normal in Berlin. When i do try to get permanent accommodation, would the normal household expenses including heating, internet etc. be more than this? I would like to know how much people in Berlin normally spend on housing related expenses when all is said and done at the end of the month. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Read those two Wiki pages.
And yes, furnished temporary housing is *very* expensive, especially if it targets foreigners.
