Excellently done BBC piece showing the way propoganda and disinformation is framed on Russian state TV. The commentary is clear and also doesn’t shy away from calling out the lies.

  1. I think classes in epistemology would be of great benefit to all school goers and should be made part of the educational curriculum in all countries. I fear it is going to become increasingly difficult to discern fact from fiction in the future with the advanced in written, visual and audio AI. Let’s not be naive enough to think that all news networks are not involved in propaganda to some degree but what is important is the telos. Our end goals are radically different to Russian end goals. They (generally speaking) want to live in an authoritarian society we do not. The various propaganda’s are filtered through those lenses.

  2. Not sure if it is available for people living outside of Germany and France but Arte Tracks is doing this basically since the beginning of the war.

  3. Well, russian propaganda has much to learn from BBC and other western media. Their propaganda methods are stuck in past century. If you need to lie to manipulate people you are doing it wrong

  4. Cool, now do Western media.

Note: I am not equating the defects of state-controlled media (Russia) with the defects of a free press in a free society.

I am highlighting the entirely separate problem of a free press which has collectively decided that pushing a political agenda is more important than truth, thus sacrificing journalistic ethics for the “higher cause” of remaking the world the way they see fit. That’s the essence of the crisis facing Western journalism, and the reason that trust in media institutions is falling to all-time lows.

Edit: Go ahead, downvote and move on. I hope that little dopamine hit is a good substitute for your personal freedoms that ultimately are in jeopardy.

  5. It’s simple. All govs lie and make up shit. Anyone that doesn’t believe msm is propaganda in some form are delusional. We’re all being had in one way or another whether you like it or not. The absolute bullshit that got spewed over Iraq and Afghanistan to keep the populations believe that we’re somehow morally right for being there or we were doing good things for the people, well just put me right off trusting media or the gov. To be fair BBC is hardly authoritarian, they have made some good documentaries on the injustices in Iraq in particular, but far from telling you the whole truth.

  6. Now if only someone can do a piece showing the way propaganda and disinformation is framed on American and British news outlets so we can clarify that everyone is being fooled and lied to by their government, nithing new, has been the case since radios became rreadily available.

  7. Really important to highlight just how powerful lies and information bubbles can be. “You are not immune to propaganda” with Garfield meme comes to mind, but it’s true: spend enough time in a bubble and it screws up the mind.

And Russians aren’t any more susceptible to this than anyone else, or somehow genetically inferior that allows for this. Human brains are equally weird.

  8. Comparing is ok – saying it’s the same – is insane.

Britain have a party scandal – Putin throws repeatedly people out of windows with no questions

  9. One very popular comedian from Russia, negatively inclined towards Putin, said very interesting words when the war began. For 10 years, our television was some kind of shame, everyone laughed at these clowns who every day discussed how NATO would be bombed, how Russian children were eaten in Ukraine. In Ukraine, everyone will freeze or die of hunger, they made a god out of Putin, and you think who will believe it. and then the war began and the people whom you considered normal sharply say that they support all this because, as it turned out, if you say the same thing every day without an alternative point of view, then people begin to believe in all this. especially old people.

  10. If you think EU/Western goverments dont promote their own propaganda and disinformation. Than you are delusional/NPC. And this is comming from someone who is pro west/pro Ukraine. ALL goverments lie no country has an honest propaganda free goverment. Everyone is using propaganda some use it more than others.
