I am planning my Belgium trip and would like to visit the famous blue forest. What are the best days to see this?

  1. I live very near. It’s not easy to predict when to go. In the coming couple of weeks, the blue flowers will start to take over. There is a website (hallerbos.be) where u can check updates on the blooming period. Ideally, you would want to visit it on a sunny day but not during the holidays (so after april 16th) to avoid the crowds. Depends on when the blue flowers start to bloom ofcourse.

  2. I went yesterday. There were already a lot of hyacinths but they were not yet in full bloom I think. Very present though and already really pretty. The white “bosanemoontjes” were also very prevalent. Not that many people either so that was nice!

So all in all starting next week the hyacinths will probably be in their prime (is my intuitive guess). It definitely is more impressive when the sun is out.

  3. Doesn’t start looking like a carpet from mid april and the best week is normally the first week of may.

I have a big patch in my garden with purple/pink/white wild hyacinths so I’ll leave a ping when they’re nearing their best time.
The grape hyacinths were a little earlier too because of the lack of any winter so it might shift a little earlier this year.

  4. The best period this year (according to predictions from the forest ranger) is the second half of April (15/04 to 01/05)

If you are able to, make sure to go during the weekdays, as the weekends will be packed.
