Good. Allowing UN security council countries veto Irish decisions is an absurd state of affairs.
Overall the security forum is a great thing – we need to have an open discussion about how our country’s foreign policy and defence posture will look in the coming decades.
I don’t believe Ireland will ever hand in an application to NATO – but we need to continue our cooperation with EU and NATO peers.
Ireland hosts very important global infrastructure and it’s our responsibility to defend it. If we are to be truly neutral, which some politicians are decrying about this conference, then we need to spend more on defence.
UN Security Council is a joke with Russia at the helm
It as one of those things that probably seemed so high minded when they came up with it, then reality set in.
But hey, sure twill be grand!
The UN security council is somewhat a joke, it’s made up of countries that are only there because they were the victors in WW2.
Absolute joke that 5 countries can veto where we send troops, because we allow them to veto it.
Giving the UN Security Council a lock on a hypothetical Irish deployment is clown stuff
The fact that FG couldn’t get rid of Russia’s veto over Ireland’s military really demonstrated how spineless they are.
They should have pushed FF and Greens to get rid of this in March 2022!
