Given that we don’t have school choice in the UK what purpose do these ratings acutally serve.
I hope she’s in a better place, away from all this hell – not many people realise the kind of person you have to be to the job she did.
Rest in Peace
This is absolutely a tragedy that should not have happened, but it’s not Ofsted’s fault. Schools should absolutely be inspected, judged, graded and held to account. Yes it’s a stress but it’s the same in other sectors. You can’t get around that. Should we also cancel restaurant inspections because people might get upset about the results? Industrial quality inspections? Driving tests? We all remember Ofsted day at school where the displays are updated, the place is cleaner than ever, you’re told to be on your best behaviour and the teachers teach the best lessons of their lives rather than getting you to copy pages out of a book. If anything there should be something done about that rather than binning off inspections or making them less harsh because currently those two days are not really a true reflection of the school.
I keep hearing this story and of course it’s horrible that this lady took her own life but really it wasn’t because of the negative school report? Whilst this would obviously be stressful and upsetting she must have been a troubled person otherwise to have done this. Surely school inspections are essential ..if they are going downhill it’s probably due to a lack of funds? I know a couple of people who worked as teachers in the UK who have moved to other countries because they said their schools here are so inadequately funded that it made everything very stressful and difficult.
this is what happens when managers are allowed to factor in emotional attachment to a job when deciding how hard they can gouge workers..
