When Housing Minister Said He Didn’t Know How Many Eviction Notices Had Been Issued, His Department Had Known for Months

  1. I hate how readily people accept incompetence as an excuse in this country, especially when it’s used as a cover for negligence.

  2. ““I wanted to flag that the RTB will be publishing data on Notices of Termination received by the RTB in Q3 2022 on the data hub section of the RTB website today,” says an email from an RTB staff member to department officials on 15 February.

That triggered a request from a department official to hold off on publishing until the following day, emails show. It is unclear what happened after that.

But that data wasn’t published until 10 March, a few days after the government had already announced it was going to lift the no-fault evictions ban.”

I bet this kind of governement interference goes on all the time and it’s infuriating. Meddling with information to suit their agenda. Irish democracy 2023.

  3. They are all a shower of lying huers varadkar and O’brien were blaming ech other on radio yesterday about who decided to lift the eviction ban.
Let’s not forget (pun intended) amnesia January where they couldn’t remember anything that was asked of them.

Since this country broke the chains or rule its been a FF or FG or a combination government, and they screwed us over every single year. Please
    Vote these clowns out

  4. Dublin Inquirer is a very good newspaper, by the by, you should all get subscriptions out if you can.

  5. A few years ago, when the construction of a primary school in Varadkar’s constituency had been delayed once again, yet another community meeting was held. Leo, at that time the Taoiseach, didn’t show up, but did an e-mail. In there, he essentially said: “I asked the Dept of Education about it several times, but never received a reply.” I talked to a few neighbours afterwards, and their takeaway was that Leo was either incompetent, could not control his own government, or wilfully lying, and the said they wouldn’t vote for him again. It’s one thing to read about his incompetence in the papers, and another to witness it firsthand. And it’s no surprise that he surrounds himself with exactly the same people in the government.

  6. Every month this dude keeps doing his thing is another month the government makes another fortune on rentals…. its all great for business…

  7. I am from the constituency he represents. Not only that, but the town he’s from too. 15-odd years ago when I was 18/19 and a new voter, and he was “just” a county council member, he struck me as a career Fianna Fail-er, knew exactly who to be seen to be rubbing shoulders with (in the local at the weekend). They were the wealthy property owners.

He never struck me as an incompetent idiot, but a clever politician in it for the career. He’s far smarter than these “I don’t know”s let on is my read of him. He just has an agenda that he’s financially benefiting from.

My early career read on him hasn’t changed since then.

  8. The electorate has allowed the two parties of FF and FG to become fat, corrupt and secure in the fact they can do as they like without recourse.

This is what a duopoly of self serving scum looks like.

  9. I don’t see what the issue is with evictions. Presumably the houses will just be rented out to other people soon after?

Is there really a net negative effect coming from somewhere I’m unaware of?

  10. The guy looks like a Celtic tiger property developer, he was never going to do any good for the housing crisis, let’s be honest.
