Thousands in poverty protest in Turkey as lira hits record lows

  1. Wow, what a disaster. I remember when the lira hit “record low” in October at being 9 TRY for 1 USD.

Makes me wonder whether that caricature of a sultan will be able to maintain his presidency after the next election.

  2. Why is is always like that recently? Right wing fucks up economy and then left wing is tryin to fix it

  3. I wonder if the Zimbabwe Dollar or Interwar Deutsche Mark inflation levels are now inevitable, or can they still do something about it? (other than minting a new currency)

  4. So, what great moves can be expected by the moustachioed Sultan? Seems thus far the Issue has been adressed in a somewhat halfarsed manner.

Any particular plans on the Horizon?

  5. That’s what happens when you fund terrorists in $ and send them to Libya, Syria, and Artsakh(Nagorno-Karabakh), etc.

Most turks support erDOGan’s actions but are surprised when they face the consequences.

  6. What would be a solution to this issue? It’s satisfying in a way to mock Erdogan for it, but what now? I really don’t want the turks to be stuck in poverty, both because we already have enough human misery in the world, and because we can’t really afford more unstable neighbours.

  7. Sometimes it’s hard to understand why the USD is a reserve currency given how much money the US likes to print, and then you read about just how bad other countries are with their fiscal policy.

  8. If Erdogan actually tries to stop inflation, would that mean that GDP growth would go (significantly) down, possibly even into recession?

  9. Turkey has got 5 million refugees from all over Middle East. As poverty spreads in Turkey those will be finally welcomed by hospitable Europeans… I bet even some Turks will join them in the pursuit of better economic conditions.

It is going to be dandy.

  10. Just wondering, I’ve heard that a lot of Turks in the countryside/rural areas/not in cities are less affected and still very pro Erdogan? How true is this? Is there an urban/rural divide in this?

  11. Anyone think Poland and Hungary are heading in the same direction economically? Backwards gov’t not knowing whats in the private sectors book of business n all
