  1. (Not so) fun fact: Russia’s tier one special forces decided the best way to solve a school siege was to fire incendiary rockets into it and kill most of the hostages.

Suffice to say being considered spetsnaz signifies you can tie your own shoelaces and not much else.

  2. Speznats are not exactly commandoes. Some are, some are really really good. Others are not commandoes at all. They are just troops for some special purposes, each unit can have different role, and they vary a lot in quality. Some are more like riot police with 0 commando training.

And ofc what happens with commandoes when they are sent to front lines is that they die to artillery and bullets just like anyone else. So when your army does not know how to do shit, they won’t do anything and since they are now dead, you can’t use them for their originally intended purposes like special forces operations or what ever mob enforcers particular units were.

  3. So many countries’ special forces are no better than the regular infantry. They’re just given Guccier kit.

  4. Well, this is good news: without the spetznaz Russia can be overtaken with a minimal financing of its insurgency and separatism.

Bad news: the world want to see Russia agonizing for a hundred years yet in a single piece – until its Soviet thermonuclear arsenals will fall apart.
