Ireland nearly had a Premier league team in the 90’s documentary

Well lads just watched this documentary and never heard of this story before about Irish football really good documentary and he does other documentaries on the downfall of the FAI too.
It’s a great yarn, but in reality it never was a goer and wouldn’t have worked. Also, can you imagine English hooligans coming over for games in the 90s… ? I was in the West Upper in Lansdowne in ’95 and that was plenty to deal with.
I remember that pie in the sky nonsense. Thankfully it never happened, our own league would’ve been killed stone dead.
Every few games would feel like an away game for the Dublin Dons. All the Irish Man United and Liverpool and Arsenal fans would be there outnumbering and cheering against the host team. Aside from that, I’m sure there’d be a uptake in tickets at the start from the general public but then when the Dons eventually get relegated, they’d be left to the usual apathetic Irish fans harping on about standard and not watching ”that shite”.
There are enough Irish/English issues as it is without having one of Englands most hated football clubs based in Dublin.
Many football fans in England still hate MK Dons, because of the “franchise” aspect. If Wimbledon can lose their club overnight, what is to stop others doing the same thing.
AFC Wimbledon predates the proposed move to Dublin – they were formed in 2002, and worked their way up from the 9th tier back into the league.
Miss Wimbledon being a team , they were always a mainstay of premier league years . Especially all the great legendary goals they had scored against them , beckham , yeboah , cantona, ginola .. and many more haha
