First night hotel snacks. Am I doing it right?

  1. Like a true Malti. Enjoy your stay ħabib. You should follow what some other comments said too, we have loads of local food you should try out.

  2. As u/rabti has told you, you are missing a ‘ftira biz-zejt’. Literally translated that means bread with oil. But in real life it is a delicious crusty flat bread with a soft centre that is garnished with tomatoes, tuna, olives and capers. I would try it in the morning as take away shops make them early on in the day and they are fresher in the morning.

You are also missing something sweet. Since you don’t seem to be on a diet, buy some ‘imqaret’. These are deep fried dough filled with a mixture of dates and spices and often flavoured with aniseed liqueur.

  3. Those pastizzi are not of ricotta. Chicken and peas or am I seeing wrong? You need to try the ricotta ones. Also, I’d suggest a Ftira biz-zejt and for an afternoon snack (that feels like a whole dinner) a ftira with eggs, meat, sausage and bacon.

  4. Almost there, but what’s that abomination that kinda looks remotely like a rotten pastizz? That’s not the real deal mate. Get a ricotta or a pizelli one (or both), preferably from Champs. none of this modern hipster junk

  5. Buchmans snackbar in Gzira,
    Rocky’s in St.Julians,
    Dukes in Msida,
    Queens in Hamrun,

    All sell amazing ftiras
