I live in Czechia and I dread that everything will become more and more expensive due to various stuff like the 2035 ICE car ban, new CO2 taxes on gasoline/ICE cars, every building having to become low/zero emission etc.

Romania is one of the EU countries with most poverty according to this: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/products-eurostat-news/-/edn-20201016-2

How will you guys deal with this new reality?

Thanks for your answers.

  1. The reality I struggle against the most is not seeing snow in winter. My whole childhood there was tons of snow in winter, then it stopped, completely.

Seeing draughts is not fun and I would rather have food on the table than be happy for driving a fossil fuel car. This deal forces innovation, and as many issues before it, humans will find a solution and make it be super cheap and efficient. This solution will cause another horrible problem and the cycle will repeat until we go extinct.

  2. It is just a target, not a dateline. Romania it’s in the hype of US and EU investements in energy, so you will buy from us. We will not care so much. We are poor now, in 2035 we will ask you: “how you doing there in poverty?”.

  3. You ask this question on reddit, filled mostly with people in the biggest cities which at least half of them are doing better than the average europeen 25-45 yo from rich countries. You won’t get a real answer from the perspective of someone who REALLY doesn’t afford a car or apartment/house.

  4. I’ll emigrate outside of Europe and buy a V8 to save the planet like other countries that don’t give a rats ass regarding emmisions, but since automotive industry is led by the Deutsch government, they play this card so it guarantees their income every 5-7 years when the ev cars go bust or a new emmision standard/ban is introduced.
    It’s all about the money!

  5. You are posting only nationalist / anti EU / conspirationist / against Ukraine war.

You also have a subreddit where you are posting every day thats about former USSR countries that are supposed to stick together, subreddit where you were saying that it would be glorious if everyone would leave EU and create their own union.

How much rubla are you getting from Putin to shill against EU? Get out of here, we dont need your kind around here.

  6. I would be very happy if our train network would get more attention. And looking forward to using bikes more.

Romania is big. Biiiiig. We have a high potential for green energy. Wind, solar and hydro, assuming our rivers don’t go dry by then, in which case, more room for solar panels 🤭

Will it be tough? Yes, for a while. Is there another way? Not really.

In southern Romania, this winter felt like spring, again. Over 15 degrees temperature, no snow and barely any rain. We only got a bit of rain this month, prior to that there was only… Sun! If you think this is not an issue, we beg to differ. It’s bad. We used to have snow starting December and then see the asphalt again in March. Not in the past 10 years, tho.

So while being afraid of what is next, please keep in mind that without these changes, things will get shitty as well. Just a different kind of shitty.

Chin up! If we could face communism and the 90’s, we can survive this time as well.

Also, unlike Cz, we are a religious nation. God will help us. /s

  7. 12 years ago very few had smartphones. Now even homeless/beggars have one.

So many things can happen in that time. I think we can’t even comprehend what 2035 will look like.

  8. Hopefully they ban them quicker, and tax the shit out of them before the planet’s climate is damaged completely. Can’t wait to see these small dick energy coal burners disappear.

  9. we are already affected by regulations, a large chunk of our energy capabilities were closed

    green credits are another burden

increased costs of using internal combustion cars, also indirectly affects prices

agriculture regulations don’t take in consideration regional specifics

reducing energy use, is almost impossible for many families

too many changes in a short period of time, with a burden on regular people and small/medium companies

almost everytime a regulation is implemented, there are huge gains for certain groups

and most frustrating, certain issues are overlooked
we have an issue related to illegal deforestation, but it receives a lot less support, considering how eager they were to close thermal power stations

  10. The **reality** is that since joining the European Union about 16years ago, the GDP per capita has nearly **doubled** in Romania. **That** is what being part of the EU got us so far, in a nutshell. While there are a lot of things still to fix or improve, our country is a far better place than it was back in 2007 and the best it has been in the past at least 80 years (if not even in its entire history).

Having a nice place to live (the EU) comes with responsibilities, too. We understand that certain things might not be the best for us on a personal level, or on a country level, but make a lot more sense in terms of sustainability or ensuring a better future for our children.

The only thing I dread is that some populist morons might get voted in a position of power and somehow vote cutting ties or straying from the European common goals. One has to be completely braindead to be afraid of anything EU related, given the real, measurable, effect it has had on our country, in a very short amount of time.
