Finns demand closure of Russian consulate in Åland

  1. So basically part of Finland is demilitarized by Russia.
Therefore part of NATO is also demilitarized.
The Russian consulate in Åland is monitoring the demilitarization.

  2. Well, that house helps keeping an eye on the Russian… diplomats and what ever they have. I don’t expect it influences that much on their number.. but sure, bit uncomfortable with consulate that even officially does MILITARY intelligence operations. One of very few such things.

  3. The consulate was opened in a deal with the soviet union (which doesn’t exist anymore) through a deal brokered through the league of nations (which doesn’t exist anymore) for reasons which are not relevant anymore. It should be closed, there’s no valid reason for it.

  4. Ok. This could openg a bag of worms. I kind of don’t want to muck up the peace deal nor let Russia an opening to “negotiate” the borders again that they’ve acknowledged.

  5. Åland??? Never heard of her

    It’s Ahvenanmaa 🤓

Edit: Flipping heck the place is making it rain
