UK insulation scheme would take 300 years to meet its own targets, say critics

  1. Ah yes, the continuing benefits of Camerons decision to [cut the “Green crap”](https://www.theguardian.com/money/2022/mar/19/david-cameron-green-crap-energy-prices)

    > Cameron’s decision to cut ‘green crap’ now costs each household in England £150 a year. Ending onshore wind projects, solar subsidies and energy efficiency schemes has added to inflated bills, study finds

Yet more winning in OPs article, which says

    > the rate of energy efficiency upgrades is 20 times lower than under the last Labour government.

In contrast to the series if shitty, short term, unstable policies from the shower of incompetents currently trying to stay in power by pushing wedge issues like ‘wokery’, Labours plan is to:

    > The Labour party has put forward plans for a large-scale energy efficiency drive to make sure all of the UK’s 27m homes are properly insulated. If elected to government, Labour would aim to upgrade the energy efficiency of 2m households in the first year of a decade-long £60bn scheme that could save households £400 on bills annually.

    > The party claims that by the end of the decade 450,000 jobs would be created by installing energy saving measures such as loft insulation and double glazing, renewable and low carbon technologies

  2. yep. currently we need 1700 new homes a day to make up the backlog in time for those born this year to have reasonable housing.

and thats not taking into account the 80 year old hovels that are past their service life and need knocked down and replaced.

  3. What the Government do arent it? Announce a scheme that sounds good on paper, but lacks detail until someone does the maths

  4. I hate when the media says vague things like, “say critics”. Critic’s could be a globally revered expert, or it could be (and let’s face it, it probably is) some tramp off the street who was a few pennies short of a meal.

Same for other things like study finds, MP says, 1 in 10 people…, and others

  5. I have a new build home.

I found missing insulation in the first 2 years.

I have been fighting for 2 years since, they have so far refused to acknowledge or inspect.

    Huge areas uninsulated, against plan.

We won’t meet any targets if they can get away with this.

  6. Insulation is just so important to save paying for wasted energy. I’m sure there is an economically possible way to insulate all houses in a more reasonable time period. Insulated homes save everyone money and lead to better health outcomes..

  7. Remember when you all lost your mind because some people where protesting on a motor way asking for proper home insulation? I remember.

Do you think a proper insulation plan would be saving you money right now on heating your homes?

I really feel like we ask for it in this country.. we like moaning and we love paying through the nose for stuff.

  8. *Insulates homes for “muh environment” (and to give a juicy gov contract to a buddy who works in construction).*

*Homes become full of mould due to poor airflow, impacting the health of residents and risking the lives of those with asthma.*
