How can we create more public awareness for it? I mean it’s common sense, no? I admit, I’ve been unaware and guilty of this behaviour myself but I try to keep it at a bare minimum. Some people just don’t seem to get it…
I’m also thinking perhaps it has to do with the amount of Trafic jams we have? I mean then it does not matter which lane you’re in. Perhaps people’s definition of a traffic jam is different?
Worst and most annoying thing is that this behaviour on a busy highway is actually most often causing the unnecessary jam…

somehow its worse on the E40 compared to other highways
In the traffic shown on the picture I would probably be driving in the right lane but the behavior shown also causes this behavior.
More than once in my daily commute I have passed a truck, went back to the right lane and by the time I reached the next truck had to hit the brakes because there was no gap in the middle lane to pass and when there’s finally a little gap, the white van behind you quickly squeezes in…
So guess what? Next time I pass a slower vehicle and see another one in the distance I’ll stay in the middle lane. I know this is a stupid excuse but usually it feels much safer being a middle lane idiot, because of the middle lane idiots.
I just pass all of them on the right line. The surprised Pikachu faces you get just confirms they are dumbasses.
Once in the early evening, still bright out, I had this fat BMW driving 115 in the middle lane. I was slowly nearing him on the right lane behind him when suddenly a highway police storms up behind us. I was thinking, cool. Some entertainment. Cop goes up to the BMW, tailgates (no blue lights). BMW doesn’t budge. Cop flashes headlights. Still nothing. Cop puts on blue lights as last resort. After 10seconds, he finally goes to the right lane. Cop leaves, BMW goes back to the middle lane.
Someone explain this to me.
Edit: us 3 (me, BMW and cop) were the only drivers on the road that time.
This is so frustrating. I actually have some family members that do exactly that. I’ve already questioned some of them, and basically they all said the same. They think the right lane is full of potholes because of all the lorries and that’s why they drive only in the middle lane. Insane people.
The worst part is thst people doing this sometimes force me to do this too. When a train of 10 cars like this is on the middle lane and the right lane has a truck, I have to hog the middle lane too, or I’ll have to sit behind the truck until the entire train has passed me.
Cops should pull these idiots over way more often. They literally make an entire lane unusable.
Some times i think about becoming a cop, just to revoke people’s driver’s license. Lots of people are not qualified to be on the road.

I try to be as calm as possible whenever I am driving, but man, those drivers really piss me off

That’s typical for **Belgian drivers**, not for the E40.
And then there’s a minor fraction of those who’re driving 110 on the middle lane that are even more frustrating. When you’re overtaking them on the left they start to match your speed and won’t let you pass them. As if they’re the king of the road in the middle lane. All peasants stay behind me. Fuck those kind of people. Seriously…

Was driving from Brugge to Beernem on the highway at around 23:00. No other cars in sight, completely empty. Except for, you guessed it, 2 cars driving 100~ kph on the 2nd lane. I actually started doubting if I was in the right and I missed some sort of emergency thing but no. I was so confused by them i kept thinking of them the entire night. Still amazed idiots are allowed to drive.
I believe if you drive to the right, and you overtake someone, the person on the left should be fined, not the one overtaking. If someone could overtake you from the right, you had more than enough space to keep on the right lane
Don’t you see all the lorries in the outermost right line. Driving there with you car is superdangerous
They god damn give everyone and their dog a company car these days.
The only people who do fucking need a car for work are those who were driving the E40 when Corona struck.
Those were the times my friends. Only essential jobs and cars and trucks on the road. No traffic jams, no suckers on the mid. No fuckers on the left doing 110 and asshats tailing because of the fucker taking over the sucker..

Looks like middle lane chads are chapping a few asses lol, go back to your right lane semi-truck gulag and drive quietly.
I feel that this is getting worse. They create dangerous situations for those following the rules and I really don’t understand how they can have a calm and relaxed drive in the middle lane with people up their asses and passing them left and right.
This could be anywhere in Belgium btw
I always think “if these guys are so “blind” or “selfish” for not driving correctly even in an almost empty straight highway, how dangerous are they in a crowded city street?”
Solution:
1. Ensure that this infraction is clearly stated in the highway code, with a sanction of 50 – 100€
2. Have a hidden police car in the E40, with a camera, lets say only 2/3 random days per month
3. Repeat 2) until number of fines is below a threshold
4. If not solved in 1 year, duplicate the sanction and repeat 2)
5. Depending on how many morons you want to take, before 2) make a public campaign in the news.
Done.
I love this, swerving between those cars, going to the right lane first before passing another car. This mostly works
You must have a pretty good life if this is a problem to you.
Meh i just don’t bother with it anymore. I just pass them on the right.
