Like in other countries, it should be common to make libraries or museums out of the church buildings. I know a guy in Australia, his house was a church in the past.
What’s tragic is that Islam is rising faster than Christianity is declining, as if the country is moving from a shitty religion to an even shittier one.
I like Churches as buildings. They look very nice and elevate the beauty of their surrounding.
Even when you are not religious, it’s something to enjoy. So, why destroying it?
Simple solution: Churches must register as “Verein” / club as any other soccer club, Turnverein, Jodelklub, Jassklub etc.
YOu can afford a building? Awesome, buy and maintain it. Can’t afford it anymore as you have no more people in your verein? Sell it. Simple.
I don’t see why a gathering of people playing soccer and people singing songs must be treated differently.
Coolest looking bar I’ve ever been in was an old church. High ceilings, stained glass, beer.
Reutilize, some have great accoustics.
Catholic churches are one of the few places which can be visited by everyone without spending money. So reusing them for something which is for the public and for free would be the only moral thing to do.
There’s one church in Utrecht/NL converted into a bar/ coffee shop. Great ambience. They maintained the churchy style, wood deco. It’s called Café Olivier.
Flattened and as parking spaces, this would be a better use for all of us! Plus no Lärmbelästigung.
Convert them into bars or make them available to clubs (Vereine) but turn off the stupid bells first and foremost… that way at least they are not a constant noise polluter anymore…
As long as someone turns off the crazy loud bells waking me up at 7am I’m ok with whatever outcome lol
Yeah, the whole obligatory tithing turns many young people away.
